Thanks for these. Volume 5 in particular looks very appealing! The Can-Can's a bit of a surprising choice for adventure..

I'll have to download them all when I get the chance. There are many scores here I've not heard; particularly from the Rabins, Revells, Badelts and Jablonskys of this world. I'm generally indifferent to their work, but always eager to be surprised by good music!

Heh heh. Threw that bit in there just for fun.

With Volume 5, I was trying to explore the roots of adventure through the origins of great old Hollywood classics and pulse-quickening Classical/Romantic-era melodies. Believe me, these will put you in the mood of swashbuckling, spelunking, or otherwise exploring lost areas of the Earth.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh God...looking at your avatar makes me pissed off that I didn't include an orchestral version of the "Legend of Zelda" theme in any of my compilations...damn it, this is going to be bugging me all day.

Haha! You could always do a 6th volume concentrating on orchestral game music.

Do you have the John Williams conducted (and arranged I believe) version??

??? Williams conducted a Zelda arrangement? That's quite a surprising news. Do you have it by any chance?

That's the first I've heard of it. And that would DEFINITELY go on an all-orchestral game music volume, if ever I attempted that type of a beast.

EDIT: A quick search on YouTube yields that it might be this version, misattributed to Mr. Williams:

Aha, yes that's the one. I always wondered if it was wrongly ascribed. There are superficial similarites to his style. Hard to believe John Williams would be ecclectic enough to do this - he's not known for his advocacy of other composers music (let alone vgm!). I used to have a really poor quality mp3 of ths somewhere tagged as John Williams and the Boston Pops, but it appears to be lost in the mists of time. Decent, if rather un-Zeldaish, arrangement tho.

This one from Smash Brawl orchestrated by Yuzo Koshiro is the next best thing, but again somehow uncharacteristic of the Zelda universe:
[Hidden link. Register to see links.]

Imagine if Poledouris had arranged it!! I think his ability to create an old-world, primitive, heroic sound would really suit it, instead of these brilliante showpiece style versions that miss the atmospere of the games.

How was the version from Orchestral Game Music Concert 1? I don't remember.

There's also a nice overblown arrangement on this CD: [Hidden link. Register to see links.]
