    FFVI/III on a PAL SNES?

Hello. I recently bought the american version of FFVI. I haven't gotten it yet though so that's the reason for this thread.

Problem is that I have a PAL SNES and I've heard that many converters can't handle the game very well. For example that there is no ending, just a black screen. I can live with that, but I would like to know if it even works at all on my converter.
The converter I have is called simply "Games Master". It's one of those where you put both an NTSC game in the front and a PAL game in the back, so it uses the PAL game's regionchip but reads from the NTSC game's ROM.

Anyone that knows if it works on this converter? Or actually, if you have any info on FFVI on a PAL SNES using a converter at all it would also be appreciated. And it would be good for others as well because there wasn't much info on this on google. Someone should really do an SNES converter compatibility list or something
I will buy an NTSC SNES some day, but until then I would at least like to try it on what I currently have.

That's highly unusual. My cousin has a PAL SNES Clone (forgot the brand, but it's slot is designed in a way that accepts both PAL and NTSC SNES carts and Super Famicom carts without any converters) and an original copy of FFVI/FFIIIUS, and it plays fine albeit a little slower than a NTSC SNES. It even plays the ending. My suggestion is, give it a shot. Also, it's worthy to try a combination of PAL games, as theorically those should affect the gameplay as well. Try using a 32mbit PAL cart with the FFIII cart.
Gentlemen, I have realized that I've been naming my latest-gen consoles after television cats! Now, the question is, why?

    Thanks for the reply.
Hmm that sounds great. But it might be the actual converter that messes it up. Guess I'll just have to wait until I get the game in my hands, then I'll know for sure.

I also thought about using different PAL games in the converter. Surely it will make a difference.
I have a PAL version of Yoshi's Island. That's a 32mbit game right? Or Donkey Kong Country perhaps?

Well as you said, you'll know for sure once you try it out. Since as you know, clones don't usually do region checking, unlike real SNES machines.

Not sure about either games, but as you said before, worth trying out.

Yoshi's Island (and Starfox, and all other FX Games) won't work, thanks to the FX Chip. Donkey Kong Country works.

Buy the so called "Fire-Adapter" its the best one out there.

Well, I got the game now. It took a little while to get here but I finally have it!

Anyway. I immediately popped in the game into the converter along with DKC (and also tried with SMW and they both worked equally good) and powered on. The title screen appeared!
So it seems to work pretty well with the "Games Master" converter. Ofcourse the usual NTSC on PAL things happened, like the display being letterboxed and the game playing a little slower.
But thankfully, even though the game itself runs slower, the music plays at the correct speed which surprised me a little. The effect of this is that for example in the intro sequence, the music ends before the intro. But that's not a big deal at all since most music in the game is looped anyway.

So i played for a bit, until I came to the first shop where I could buy better gear and was going to equip that gear when, to my horror, I noticed that almost every submenu in the menu (like the Equip submenu or Items submenu) was completely dark with only some text visible.
I then thought that that was it. I wouldn't be able to continue without ever going into the menu and change stuff. Luckily I found a way to get around this issue.

It seems that what happened there just happens if you are on the overworld, or if you just came from the overworld to a town or something, and go into the menu.
If I go into a cave or any other place with monsters(except for the overworld ofcourse) and go into a battle there and win, I can then go into the menu and it just works as it should.
It probably has to do with the overworld using mode 7 or something.

Well anyway, thanks for all the replies. And I hope my info is useful to someone in the future.

Not to mention posting a completely unrelated topic in a really old thread like this. Hence, I'm closing this. In future, if you want to ask something different which is not related to the topic at hand, just make a new thread about it.
