    Mournful, depressing, and sad music.

What is the saddest and/or most depressing song you've ever heard in a game or movie?

Edit: Oops, I guess I should have mentioned mine...

"Lament" - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (alternately known as "Anakin's Betrayal")
"It Can't Be" - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (cue present in the album track "Anakin's Dark Deeds")
"The Immolation Scene" - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
"Qui-Gon's Funeral" - Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
"Lux Aeterna" - Requiem for a Dream

"Arnhem" - Medal of Honor: Frontline
"After the Drop" - Medal of Honor: Frontline
"The Fallen" - Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis
    "Theme from Schindler's List" - Schindler's List

All three songs easily elicit the heartfelt pathos and depressing sentiment of their environments, I find.

"After the Drop" - Medal of Honour: Frontline.
The most depressing and mournful track I've ever heard in my life. There's just so much beauty packed in it. Definitely one to be played at my funeral.

"Debriefing" - Metal Gear Solid 3

A close second. However, you need to have finished MGS3 in order to feel the power of this song. For those who just want to see MGS3's ending, here it is:

Say! Thanks for reminding me of that one! "After the Drop" is indeed a wistful composition. I'd say "Arnhem" only manages to beat it by a nose.

This thread screams "emo". I haven't heard any songs that I considered to be very sad, I have heard pieces of music that are quite sad or emotional. "Aeris' theme" mainly with the attachment to her death, "Hinata Vs Neji" played during the Hokage's funeral (from Naruto OST) is also quite sad.

I'm referring to pieces of music, not "songs" per se. Maybe I should have worded that differently.

"Forever Rachael" & "Celes" - Final Fantasy VI

Mention depressing/sad and I think of these right away, that soundtrack tied in so well with the story...

Don't think I've heard it in a game, but Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings is one sad and beautiful piece.

I've always thought that this song sounds a little saddening but more calming:

[Hidden link. Register to see links.]

There are other songs from that album that also have that same tone.

    This is quite fitting:

[Hidden link. Register to see links.] (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)
Song should automatically start playing when you click on the link.

If you really like this song I should be uploading the FLAC [lossless] version of the soundtrack soon; keep an eye on the "[Hidden link. Register to see links.]" thread.

Its not my saddest song ever, but "Loss of Me" from Final Fantasy IX was pretty sad.

And whoever mentioned the end of Metal Gear Solid 3, and the song Debriefing, I agree wholeheartedly. Very powerful, and very sad.

The Dirge of Cerberus soundtrack is like that. Haven't been able to complete the game (too uninteresting) but I've listened to the soundtrack; Deep Darkness of Shinra and especially Terminus send a chill up my spine every time.

"Blue Sky" from Front Mission: Gun Hazard is also great and terribly sad. Will immediately change your mood, like "At the Bottom of the Night" does.
