Looks great! Release year and album artist is all the main information needed in addition to release name.
"Various" can be also Various Artists or VA, but that's a matter of taste, I guess. Nobody would search for them anyway.

Ok guys, the new layout is in place, but i am able to switch back to the old one if this one does not please.

The main concern being the list is done with an HTML table, and it's build with columns and not lines (because the forum does not support most of the lines HTML attributes).
So it's not that practical, but the added informations are still nice.
I also had to switch from the Arial font to the Tahoma font to get a bit of spacing, Arial being too narrow.

So let me know once again if it's better or not.
I'll have a few soundtracks coming later today.

    More feedback from me.

    1. Well, the thread is called "western VGM releases". Album art is always a part of a release. VGMDB stores them (and btw I contribute better ones there, like higher resolution or better quality), MusicBrainz has its cover archive. Your releases have none at all. I can deal with no cover art in file tags but at least an image of album art gotta be present. I will also mention there are cases where covers differ per track, like in Escape Goat, for example.

    2. Would be nice to have release year in folder/archive name, not just in the table here.

    3. The last minor thing. I can always encourage people to use open formats. Open zip instead of proprietary rar. Archiving is used to make a single file anyway, we can's speak of data compression when dealing with FLAC files. Zip will do just fine.
The whole archiving thing won't be necessary at all if people here were using [Hidden link. Register to see links.]. But that's completely another story...
    Spoiler!

    Thanks for the feedback.

I think most of your remarks are personal preferences: i guess everyone has their own way on how they are cataloging their music. (ex: i personaly don't keep neither year nor composer info in the folder name)

So far, the album art was always included to the tags, i can add it to the folder too, sure.
But as a side note, i don't think there an universal guideline on what should be included in "releases", it's mostly a scene term.

I can do that but i won't change my previous uploads, sorry about that.

I won't change that because i think most poeple use rar more than anything else, i am not saying it's better though.

Good Evening, first off, thank you from the bottom of my soundtrack-loving heart for your contributions. It's people like you who take it to the next step and spread the love. Thank you.

Second, I humbly ask if you might take a look at this Re-release from Jeremy Soule: [Hidden link. Register to see links.]
It seems the original tracks from NWN are now available in FLAC format. It is similar to the OST from the Diamond version, but that one never got a lossless release.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

    Ryan

Of course such things are quite subjective. Still I believe they have rationale.

I'm terribly sorry, I must have mixed you up with someone else. Yes, covers have always been in tags, that's true.
My way of dealing with covers: normally I try to keep metadata sub 100 KB and embedded art is usually square 500px picture. The highest resolution and quality album art is in the root folder. Thus duplication of embedded art isn't a big deal but at the same time each track is self-sufficient + the beauty of album art is preserved in superb quality.

Regarding releases. Well the term means anything being released if you ask me. It has nothing to do with scene specifically, both it and officials have what I would call releases. F.e. GOG news often start with "Release: %GAMENAME%" or each Bandcamp album page says "Released: %DATE%".

No universal guideline - true and quite a pity. No unity, each person stays consistent with himself at best. I would hope for having at least some basic does and don't here.
Well, it's just a huge pile of stuff here anyway, so... Anyway it's a blessing to see your well organized efforts here.

That's awesome to have, thanks! Of course I wouldn't dare to ask to re-do the previous uploads, that'd be nonsensical.

I have no clue why people prefer rar here. I believe it has historical reasons only. When years ago connection was worse (traffic limits, lower speeds) recovery rate rar archives may have could have saved someone in case of troubles with downloads. Also it could be used for multi-volume archiving.
Archiving is just a burden here, for the sake of convenience of uploading/downloading/integrity checks - the one that is already solved technically (with BitTorrent protocol, for instance). We also aren't speaking of compression here, that's a task for audio codecs, after them you can hardly compress audio files with regular compression. And thus archiving is used just to make a single file out of a bunch of them - a task zip is perfectly capable of (for that very purpose tar under Unices is used). I'd prefer zip for being open format and being widely natively supported.

The word can be spread though I hope they know about torrents at least.

Hi again! I see you posted some new AI War music, this is unfortunate as now I'm reminded about [Hidden link. Register to see links.], which I've been meaning to gather up... and after a quick check in the lossless thread it seems that all of [Hidden link. Register to see links.]... double unfortunate.

Would you happen to have this stuff?

I'm also pretty surprised at how many Humble Bundles Arcen has had their AI series in over the years, and yet, I have none of their music on Humble. That's like triple unfortunate.
