For me, the saddest anime is Rozen Maiden. One of the characters (a magical wind-up doll) dies a slow sad death >sigh<.

Saddest for me was Chrno Crusade. The last episodes were killer
I found the ending of Ayashi No Ceres to be very sad... I cried for a full half hour or so at the end, and also the part somewhere near the middle when Aya runs into the forest after Touya doesn't recognise her, and she cries so hard...Made me sad.
Air and Grave of the Fireflies for me.
the saddest anime.............. for me it was 5 centimeters per second
AirTV, I cried, I cried HARD at the ending. It was just so sad.
....Until.... Tomorrow...
Well I guess I can lighten the mood at my expense; it's kinda embarassing for me to say this, but it's the only thing I can think of at the moment. For me the saddest anime was......
*Somewhat Insignificant Spoiler*
The original Pokemon episodes, the one where Butterfree leaves the crew. I freakin' cried over that scene, but in my defense I was just a kid. Although there were other times that made me feel sad. OKAY NOW GO AHEAD AND LAUGH AT ME!! HAVE A CHUCKLE AND BE DONE WITH IT YOU INSENSITIVE B****RDS!!!!
Then again considering the topic insensitive might not be the best word to use on you guys lol![]()
Lol, not gonna laugh at you, just your defensive stance. Too be honest, that was a very touching scene and I still have the music from that scene in my computer and I listen to it every so often because of it's beauty. Now if you cried because because James stopped wearing those fake boobs and a bikini, then that would be worthy of redicule. (episode when Team Rocket member James entered a female bikini contest... weird)
What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!
Hokuto No Ken TV series was depressing for me. I watched the movie years before the TV series so I kinda knew what was going to happen to some of the characters........but it was still very depressing to watch those characters (and others) die.
Galaxy Expess 999 movie......the scene with Tetsuro and his mom.....
Giant Robo had a lot of sad scenes.
Grave of the Fireflies would probably take the title of Saddest anime of all time...........if I ever choose to watch it.![]()
Bambi and Lassy all fell before the very sadness inherent in Trigun. That was the first character death that made me cry.
I watched the last episode of Serial Experiments Lain last night, and have to say I thought the ending was pretty depressing. I immediately found myself thinking "so basically after everything this character's been through and had to find out about herself throughout the story, that's how things end up for her?"
I personally found it pretty sad, as had been hoping things would take a more optimistic turn.
Still an interesting ending - and show - imo though!
Dr Crane isn't here right now, but if you'd like to make an appointment....
Tekken Kinkreet's ending was filled with sorrow and caused a tear or two to shed... definitely a great film!
For me, Grave of the fireflies.
One of the best anti-war anime or animation of the 20th century.
The character.
The environment.
The story.
The song.
All is tragedy.
(I will try byousoku 5 centimeters when I have time. I listened to the song and it was very sad.)
FOR ME IT HAS TO BE GUNGRAVE
Fullmetal alchemist, the ending to mononoke hime (miyazaki bastard, why couldn't they end together), code geass (see episode 13 of the second season), darker than black, X-1999 in all of its presentations, CLOVER manga.
Winners never quit, quitters never win, but those who never win and never quit are idiots.
Man,I'm quite agree with this. The scene where Rosette cried in the end before he and Chrono....
Kinda agree too with Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen. I never expect that the end would be that way.
Hmmm....mine would maybe be Elfen Lied for now. The murder scene in the train, and the scene in the final episode where this guy died with her daughter

hands down it goes to Saikano, a close second for me is Grave of the Fireflies
So far it's Higurashi no naku koro ni just because I found it sad when they had to go through the same cycles over and over again.
5 centimeters per second... I found myself so inside the movie that I couldn't sleep, and until now I just can't take out of me that deep felling of loneliness...
The story is so... similar of mine.
Anyway! a constructive critic, the final scene is so wonderful except the song... I think it had nothing to do with the entire way of expression. It's even loud and the singer is... sad.... the good part is the lyrics, they are just fine
