It was Legend of the Dragoon and FF8 at the same time. Can't really say which I got first, but they both introduced me to the RPG world.

If you don't want to continuously type out Yuna Rikku Paine, feel free to just type 'YRP.' It'll make your fingers happy^^

First RPG of any type - AD&D 1st edition.
First CRPG - Probably "Telengard", or "Bard's Tale" for my Commodore 64.
First console RPG - One of the DragonQuest games for NES.

i would say my frist actual RPG type game was either
    Wonder Boy on megadrive
    Zelda link to the past
or Final Fantasy VI (which got me into RPG's)

But my first game was Super Mario Bros

    Grandia.

I thought it was most the most awesome thing ever. I cried like an idiot when a certain party member left. Having said that, I was 11 at the time, so I suppose I should cut myself some slack. :P

My first was Ys: The Vanished Omen for the Master System in 1988. I was only two at the time, and that was one of my first games ever. It is an RPG, so I wasn't old enough to understand it. Chrono Trigger was the one that got me into RPG's.

My first RPG ever was FFIV. I played it together with my cousin. We took turns on who would 'control', plus we discussed where to go next and all. Real good times. We were 9 y/o or so. And we hardly knew proper english (let alone bad translated...).

Little Ninja Brothers for NES was definitely my first. (And one of my favorites still) The first one I REALLY got hooked on was Mario RPG. I'm sure there were some others in between, but at that age all games were called 'nintendo'. There wasn't any 'platformer', 'puzzle', 'beat-em-up', or 'RPG', at least not for the kids, so that makes it more difficult to recall.

Final Fantasy III(FFVI) for the SNES for me. Started back in '97 or '98 iirc. My cousin kept bitching about how good it was, so I went over to his house one day and he started a new game. I was hooked. He wouldn't lend the console and the game to me tho (I was a Sega Genesis fanboy then), so I ended up playing it on emulation. Of course, back then, most emulators were rather primitive and we had no transparency or windowing, or color addition/subtraction, which made the game looked bad, but still I played it, because it's storyline was good. Eventually, emulators were as good as the real thing, and by then I was still playing it. In fact, I still have the ROM in my computer's hard disk now - the very same ROM I downloaded in '97-'98 and then backed up into ZIP disk, restored, transferred into CD-R, and restored a few times again.

Only in Febuary this year did I finally buy Final Fantasy VI Advance and thus own a completely legit copy of the game. And I'm still playing it, despite having beaten Kefka a few times (and starting over a dozen unfinished games) on the emulated SNES version.
Gentlemen, I have realized that I've been naming my latest-gen consoles after television cats! Now, the question is, why?

That was one of my favourite games as a kid (I was actually looking at pictures of it today).

My first RPG was the first zelda game.

My first RPG would have to be Final Fantasy I, however, I don't think that counts. I was three years old and stole the controller from the Aunt (she was the one playing the game) and randomly pressed buttons, I was told that I killed a monster.

My first RPG that I can remember playing would be Chrono Trigger.
