Could you elaborate? It passed AudioChecker, it was ripped using EAC, and I can't find anything out of the ordinary aurally.

Well they didn't post the Extraction error so shouldn't be the way you ripped the CD.

You probably ripped it absolutely fine, but I think one of the parts of the download for Tribute disc 1 has gone corrupt.

I say this because when I extract the RAR parts (using 7-zip), it tells me that the CRC check on the APE file fails. When I check it out in-depth, I find that a section of track 17 (Fuga #9998) is missing at about 1:36 in to the song.

Fortunately that's all that's missing! Track 18 (Fuga #9999) is absolutely fine. I can't find any other errors.

So as I say, I doubt you've made any error yourself, I think it's just a random error that has occurred somewhere along the line. I couldn't say which part exactly is causing the problem, but downloading all the files a second time yielded the same result.

The only thing I haven't tried is using a different program to extract the archive. If only I hadn't deleted them so quickly... ^^;

Update: I downloaded the files a third time, and used WinRAR to extract them. Same error -- CRC check fails, and the file is corrupt. Indeed, the end of track 17 is missing. So I'm really certain that a file has gone corrupt somewhere!

I downloaded it just now and it seems the part 6 is indeed corrupt, kind normal these days. That is the reason we place recovery records with it. No need to download all again, just download part 6 and repair the archive with Winrar.

Yes if you have the money, there are companies who could do it. That will likely be more expensive than buying the album on Ebay.

No with normal practices. Since Flac is open source There is a hope it will adhere rr3 within it, i.e frame synch recovering.

Thanks metroid, that did the trick. I'll work testing archives in to my routine.

Adding redundancy into archives (in the form of recovery records) is a pretty smart move. I assume this is a feature of RAR archives and not, say, 7z?

I ask because I'm wondering what format would be best for distributing soundtracks. Compression doesn't matter much because FLAC, Ape and such formats are already compressed. But data redundancy does matter because, as you say, files are quite prone to getting corrupt -- especially on these free hosting sites.

You just have to extract it with 7-zip, there shouldn't be any problems.

Hrrmm..... The first file opened just fine and is playing for me right now, but the second part of the file keeps telling me it cannot open as archive

Am I doing something wrong?
