Atelier Series Lossless* Collection

- Foreword -

Finally...

As the name implies, it's a contribution to the Atelier Series, a collection gathered from diffrent and various sources around the net.
(Even some booklet scans were found separately and included in the corresponding soundtracks.)


Its main goal:
To raise the knowledge and availability of Atelier Music (for self-enjoyment), that will never (likely) see a natural release outside Japan/Asian Countries.


* Sadly, I was not be able to locate everything in lossless, that's why, some contents are in MP3.
(It is however mentioned under the Soundtrack name, in which format it was encoded and
for extra visibility they include an additional '_3' in their (archive) filenames.)
Maybe in the future, there is a truly lossless thread dedicated to Atelier Music, but future will tell.

Also it's NOT A COMPLETE LIST of all soundtracks. In the third section, you can find a list, to see what is still missing.
You can activley help and contribute missing or inferior soundtracks in a LOSSLESS format (preferred) or in MP3.

I actually planned to create these posts visually more appealing and structured, but gave up on this idea
in order to share this with everyone (before it lies somewhere in a corner for much longer, gathering dust)...
I also canceled the necessity of personal remarks for all the diffrent Soundtracks. Too much text already.
(Maybe, some day, there will be an update, making this post more compact and deleting unnecessary text.)

Name/Sign of the Game

The title of the album is followed by the catalog number.
After that, the format (FLAC or MP3) is mentioned (beneath
the name) and if LOG/CUE File(s) and/or Scans are included.

The FLAC file itself is usually an Image rip, meaning
the whole CD is stored in one file. For help regarding
Image files, view the FAQ at the bottom of the post.

The booklet (if available) is usually in the folder "Scans"
alongside with other scans (like CD, outlet, and so on).
If it is highlighted, you will be able to extra download the
Scans (they are included in the main upload though).


EXTRAS:
(This includes official content, that is usually available
through official Gust Sites (wallpapers/sketches), and
scanned Artbooks [Common Language: Japanese].)

Enquette Bonus Content (if available)
Bonus content that can be unlocked at the official
Gust Shop website. Includes mostly bonus MP3 songs,
Wallpapers, Interviews, Sheet Music, and so on...
(In short: Small goodies, for diligent "salburgers".)
For a more in-depth explanation, scroll a bit down.
This content was picked mostly for archival purpose,
but that doesn't mean, it should keep you from filling
out their surveys. You can have a impact of the future
of Atelier Games too. ~_^

Note: Not every game has every content section covered.
Reasons: Never released, not found, disappeared, etc.

from official websites, and follow an "archival purpose"
or for gathering them in a bunch.



~MISC STUFF~

Almost every album is an "Image" file, and in my opinion it's the most customize
able format. First you can easily change the FLAC file to your favorite lossless
file, with only one file to re-encode in the most cases.

If there was a .txt file present in the original upload, I didn't include it in here
(same goes for html pages and/or 'out of context' images).

I took the time to write detailed cue sheets (only for the romanised ones) with notepad,
so if you should find a (bigger) mistake, let me know. You can easily change it yourself,
or to your preferences.

Main references for the english names of the tracks were mainly:
vgmdb, rpgfan, chudah's corner (rest in peace) and my humble self

I also renamed japanese character -file names- to latin ones. It often does not resemble
the log file names, but it is 100% the one, that was included.
In the log you usually see the previously uploader (if mentioned in the drive name), or what
format the disc was extracted beforehand.
Again, although I changed file names, cue files and log file names (if in Kanji) to resemble
only romanised characters, I left the LOG itself 100% untouched.
Additional, most of the OSTs have their original kanji cue file included.

I didn't test every single album about their lossless authenticity, but in contrary I'm certain,
there shouldn't be any lossy files among them. If you find some, be sure to let me know.

I will wait, till some time has elapsed before putting up the newest soundtracks of the series,
and if you like what you hear, you are encouraged to buy the stuff (if it isn't out of print yet).
Cause we all know, that keeping an physical copy in our collection, satisfies our
primitive "hunters and gatherers" heart much more, than digital/"fake" copies. ^_~
And if you didn't played a game of the Atelier Series, be sure to check some out. ;)

Note: Generally Drama CDs are in Japanese, if not stated otherwise.

- A SHORT INTRODUCTION TO THE ATELIER SERIES -

For the start, I have to admit that I never played any
other GUST game, apart from Atelier Iris 1+2+3, Atelier Annie
(poor attempts of the JP Marie+Elie PS games not counted),
Atelier Rorona and Atelier Totori.
Reason? Well, mostly blame the few localisation I guess. ;)
That being said, "out there" might be more enlightened Atelier
Scholars, than my humble presence. Trust them.

For those, that never had contact with "it", and are curious what
I'm even talking about. It's a game series by GUST (you may
know them as Producer of the "Ar Tonelico" Rpg series)
aimed primarily for console gaming like Playstation 1/2/3 and
Handhelds. It's your average Japano cuddle friendly, colourful,
cheerful, harmless roleplaying experience, with a main focus
on character progression and their minimalistic stories.
If you're allergic against cuteness and everything involved in
"seeing things through rose-coloured glasses", you may
start your next blood spitting/spilling ego-shooter round,
and skip this thread entirely. ;)
(Since it pretty much transfer all those characteristics
into the game music, for the most parts.)
Also, I always had the feeling, this series had a greater
impact with/on female players (like [Hidden link. Register to see links.]).
Well the themes might justice my assumption.
All right, enough babbling...

Only 9 Games out of 20~ Atelier titles were released outside Japan.
2 of them being an "Atelier school" offset (Mana-Khemia), and
3 of them a more classical adventure, J-RPG type (Atelier Iris).
3 of them, quite new, follow more closely what the first concept
of Atelier games was all about, first time in 3D (Arland series).
The newest installment is Atelier Totori for PS3 (test it out!).

Right, Atelier Annie was the first "typical" Atelier Game, people
outside Japan could get a hold off. It featured the basic system
similar to their first games of the franchise, like "Atelier Marie".
But being a NDS game, it had a very strong childish factor to it,
althought the system itself didn't changed too much.

The most basic attribute of the series is called "Alchemy".
Gathering ingredients, mixing them together and thus creating
Items for personal use, selling, filling requests, and so on.
The second most important trademark is clearly their main
heroines, and the many charming characters, populating the
(japanese comprehension of) german fantasy influenced world.
Everything else, as the series evolves, was affected and added
by current development circumstances in the "Adventure/Rpg"
console industry, but nonetheless added and realised their own
ideas within the familiar concept...

As a matter of fact, the Atelier series plays mostly in a
medieval-fantasy setting, involving classic J-RPG elements
such as Town(s), Dungeons/Fields + Monster apperances,
NPC, Shops, Weapons, Items etc.
From its style (earlier work), you could say it fits in the
"period" of Record of Lodoss War and Slayers.
The greatest diffrence (expect Atelier Iris) may be, that
you don't wander too far off, but in contrary stay in the
same town, opening an Alchemy Shop and "live" there.
So it has 'daily life' elements, simulation carried,
focusing on the interactions between the characters
and doesn't follow sophisticated story lines too much,
while keeping yourself busy with alchemy.

The more earlier works had an isometric 3rd person view,
and like the NDS games, a really simple battle system.
The relations and interactions between the characters
was mainly through Portrait+Background Images+Text
as we might know from many visual novel games, but
also old Rpg games and even more modern ones.

The initial series had it's peak in Atelier Viorate.
After that, GUST seemed to follow a diffrent path, starting
with Atelier Iris, and for the first time, releasing their games
in US and Europe.
That may be the reason why most people associate the
series with typical Rpg-Game elements.

Mana-Khemia introduced the series to the (never growing
old...) school environment. Since I never played that one,
I can't tell too much about it, so just check common
information sites on this matter.

Atelier Rorona was GUST attempt, to go back to it's root, and
that for the first time in a complete three dimensional fashion.
Also the Artwork for the game was drawn by a new artist, who
gives the game a more mature "visual novel" feel and look
(in comparsion to the NDS games, where the target audience
are clearly younger girls). Well, Style is a matter of taste, time,
and influence, but be sure to check both games out. ;)
Atelier Totori itself follows very closely the concept of "Rorona",
as much as Atelier Meruru does, just in a diffrent location.

Atelier Meruru is being prepared for the US and the EU,
which closes the Arland trilogy. Be sure to check it out!
(The release date is stated for May, the 22th/24th).

I get an error while unpacking.
If the files are often corrupted, it helps, if you download them one by one (at least in my experience)
to prevent damaged archives. Or just re-download the specific parts with the error message.
Alternately you can repair them, with Winrar for example. (I added rr10% in any archive.)
(For better speed, you may want to try a download accelerator, like dTa, if using ff.)


I can't access a specific file anymore!
If something goes down, or is temporarily unavailable, contact me via PM, and I will look into that matter.
Restrain yourself from writing such repetitive affairs in the thread.

Also note:
The diffrent servers of the host could be temporarily disabled or maintained, making single parts unaccessible to download (for a while).
If that's the case, please wait for a couple of hours or days, before accessing the unavailable file again. It will most likely be available again, then!
(Patience is the key here. If single files are offline for a long duration, feel free to contact me, and I will re-up them - if they are really down.)

The host told me that the file was blocked, but I didn't "violate" anything...
The link anonymizer service "anonym.to" is used here, which conceals the origin of the site (in this example, ffshrine), when you press on a download link (url).
Some file hosts or general internet services collect the data, from which site you are coming from, and so on. This is just a way to prevent that, nothing special,
but it is causing problems with -mf- lately, since it seems to go againts their policies.
Please use this workaround, if you have troubles getting through:
Wait for 'anonym.to' to forward you automatically to the download site, or copy the download link and paste it into the browser bar (without http://anonym.to/?).

What is FLAC?
FLAC is a lossless audio format, meaning it stores the Wave file (present as PCM on physical discs) like a container,
compresses the overall file size, but still don't degenerate the file itself. The music files stay untouched.
MP3 in contrary manipulates the file itself, a loss of data and is therefore a lossy encoding.
For more information about FLAC, visit their official website.

How do I play it on my computer?
You can play FLAC with players like Foobar, Winamp FLAC Plugin and Media Players with FLAC support.
There are of course more options, just look around. But as mentioned above, FLAC stores the original
Wave file, so you are able to encode it to any prefered format you like. You will need [Hidden link. Register to see links.] though,
or you can use your favorite encoding/decoding program.

How do I split Image Rips, so I can enjoy the music in single Audio Tracks (as it was intended)?
You can play it by using the CUE file in players like Foobar, or split the Image File (using the CUE),
in programs like CUETools. Even [Hidden link. Register to see links.] supports a split, but it was never really designed for that usage.
But don't forget, you need a working CUE file, containing the lengths and pregaps of the tracks, to
create the 1:1 copy of the tracks.


So HOW do I split Image files now?
General process:
When installing the programs, be sure to check the necessary components and converting tools.
Simply spoken, a split is nothing else than taking the whole Image (wave) file and encode it anew.
The .cue file provides the track times & pregaps (and all other informations) to split the single tracks
at the right parts. (Lastly you should be aware to choose the right CUE with tags and everything.)
That's it.

1. Drag the .CUE file into a foobar playlist
2. Highlight all tracks (you want to convert to single tracks), press right mouse button and choose "Convert" -> "..."
3. In the "Convert Setup" window, "Output Format" tab, you choose FLAC
3.5 Optional: You can press "...", and choose Level 8 as maximum compression
3.75 Optional: Choose "Output path" to a specific folder (or the source file folder)
4. In the "Output files" tab you choose "Convert each track to an individual file"
4.5 Optional: Set the "Name format" to your liking (example: %tracknumber% - %title% )
5. Activate other options (like ReplayGain) only when you know, what you're actually doing
6. Press okay! If everything went fine, the files are now converting
6.5 When done, check the new files. Metadata (tags) are preserved and the same, as stated in the CUE file

7. Optional: If you are unhappy with the outcome, open the CUE file in notepad, and change (replaceable) informations
(like Interpret or Album/Song title) and repeat step 1~6.

And it's done! =)

(Hint: Opening "File" -> "Preferences" -> "Tools" -> "Converter" you can preset diffrent encoding settings to your liking.)

1. In the "Input Field", search for the .CUE of your Image file
2. In the "Output Field", choose the destination for your new tracks (folder)
3. For "Action", choose "Encode"
3.5 The "Action" pull down menu (default, fix offset,...) can be used in conjunction with the "Extra" fields;
"default" ignores the "Extra" options (Pregap, Data Track and Offset) - only use them, if needed
4. For "Mode", choose "Tracks"
4.5 Optional: If you know this album exists in the "AccurateRip" database, you may check this box
(or the others), otherwise you should keep them unchecked
5. For "Audio Formats", choose "Lossless", scroll to "flac" and choose encoder (standard is "libFLAC")
5.5 Set the compression level beween 5~8
6. Press "Go"! If everything went fine, the files are now converting
6.5 When done, check the new files. Metadata (tags) are preserved and the same, as stated in the CUE file

And it's done! =)

(Hint: If you want to disable the "AccurateRipID" remark, go to "Settings" -> "AccurateRip" and disable "Write AccurateRip tags".)

Notice: If you have problems to get a (new) CUE file working, check the original one and change "Gap Handling" accordingly to it.
Also please notice: I won't answer questions about the listed programs. If you have problems with them, visit their help sites.


What FLAC Version did you use to transcode them to lossless?
I used the common version (v1.2.1), available at the official site, so nothing new and fancy I fear.
You shouldn't have problems to play them on any device, which are FLAC capable.

Thanks! I do hope they release Atelier Viorate (PSP) at least in the states, but I think for the start the Soundtrack will be more than sufficient (when the time comes).

Unlike Atelier Rorona - Visual Art Book (which is widley available through diffrent sites), the Atelier Totori one seems to be a well hidden treasure. Since it was a bundle give away, only accessible through their JP site (as far as I know), we are at the mercy of those few selected souls.
(Most likely, they hoard it with other Atelier goodies, still sealed, and sleep on that small pile of precious, sparkling things.)

I will PM you about your "edit offer" (when you have enough posts in this forum, to make this possible - I think 5 or 10 posts). ^^

So it does contain new material, and I confused it with [Hidden link. Register to see links.] (US release, what is actual an excerpt of the OST).
The same goes for the second Soundtrack Book (with Best Of and Extra Arrangement Tracks).

Funny story and something to learn: If you have folders, actually open them first before speculating. After looking INTO my folders I actually made a note there that the first tracks are contained in their respective OSTs.

So these Iris books have absolutely no new Iris material in them ^_^
but remixes of older stuff.

It's not my intention to rival anything, but I fear these are not in my possession and (some) are even more rare than (some) Japanese ones, since they were usually only included as preorder bonus or in limited editions. I will keep an eye out for them though.

I don't want to sound importunate or anything, but if your Atelier Judie OST offer is still valid, it would be nice to have at least one of them (PSP or PS2) in lossless. =)

Thanks to El Bastardo we cleared up the confusion around the "Atelier Iris ETERNAL MANA Soundtrack Book 1" + "...2" and know now that the first few tracks are "Best of" songs from the OSTs and the rest arrangements from older Atelier titles. ("Atelier Iris ETERNAL MANA 2 Soundtrack Book" contains only arrangements of the first ETERNAL MANA.)
He provided these arrangements, and I took the Atelier Iris (Best Of) Tracks from their OSTs ("1" = 01~10, "2" = 1~13), re-tagged and joined them together.
So it's not a 1:1 copy of the CD, but since there is no cue or log, it doesn't really effect the outcome anyway. Just so you know. (And they do not contain the Artbook itself.)
Alternately if you don't need the "Best of" Tracks, you can use El Bastardo upload links - they only contain the new material. "1" = 11~22, "2" = 14~22)

What do you mean by "timed error"? When you try to download, or extracting of the (rar) archive, or by playing in a media player?

It works again (at least for me). Sometimes the host (mf) seems to maintain or disable servers temporary. I will write a note in the main post. Please just try it a couple hours/days later, and see if it works then (the same goes for your problem above, if that's what you were asking).

@Scha : Oh i played it only in VLC. I cant Play it on other programs like winamp... it cant read .cue? @_@
If its about the extracting and downloading... i guess ill have to re-download it again... i have no problem with it. Hehehe...

what i mean about timed error is like when i click .cue all the full list is there but the timing of the time is not accurate for example Horned Enigma - Still playing the 20 seconds of the previous song before the Horned Enigma will play.

And About that Downloading thing oh well... i can wait. if i cant download hehhehehe the site is always open so .. ahaha i can visit and DL anytime...

Quite a few of these soundtracks, like Luce ~Another Fantasm~ are one big file, with the tracks not separated. Is there a reason for this?
