Academia was built on Pulse, not Cocoon? I'm pretty sure the Datalog entry mentions it 'developed from the small settlements that sprang up around the base of the Crystal Pillar on Pulse', or something like that. If it was on Cocoon though it would explain why he then spent all that time and effort trying to build a new Cocoon, which I thought was odd given the fact Academia seemed pretty sufficient for human society as it was.

But then, I guess you're right then that the story is complete rubbish so yeah.

it was stated clearly as early on as 3 AF that the interior of Cocoon was already breaking down due to the lack of the fal'cie to maintain it, so you would have thought everyone would have abandoned it to it's fate (especially as they knew it was going to collapse eventually). I guess some people are just too stubborn and would prefer to stick with the only home they know, rather than moving to a unknown and savage wilderness, even despite knowing they would ultimately perish when then whole thing comes crashing down.

Ah well. I'm gonna go throw Mog around Academia. Later.
