It's the other way around. your usb port fried and cause the overheating.

do you like... overclock your laptop? do you give it lots of circulation room? do you buy those air cans and dust everything out? ever open the laptop and dust it out? do you have it plugged into the wall? if you do, do you keep the battery in it while it's plugged into the wall? do you have one of those fan pads for laptops? How frequently do you turn the laptop on and off?

I recognize the location they shot the exteriors.

This is the real place:

The studio is on the right. In the back is a chunk of the Los Angeles Produce market. On the left is American Apparel.
This area's been used for movie going back to the 40's. More recently it's been a ton of movies and Tv shows, including (regrettably,) Fast and The Furious and Transformers. Most recently:

Although even morest recently, it will be in Dark Knight Rises. (Apparently something to do with blowing up Bruce Wayne's car. I don't know.)
For my short, I did a lot of background manipulation:

I don't overclock, it's on a cooling deck, and I don't keep the battery in while it's plugged in at home.

It was just the summer heat. The usb is fine after a restart. Though now I know that one of them is a slower 1.0. I think it was me playing Tribes too long. Guess those Minimum requirements are important.
