It's been pretty nice to see them get homages in various TF repaints, the last couple years.

Spoons got a repaint from the ROTF Dirtboss mold.
Crasher (Fracture) was made from the Classics Mirage mold.

gobots was acquired by hasbro (same company that made TF toys) eventually. it'd be redundant to do a gobots movie, but it's cool to see TF paying tribute and homage. btw i haven't seen TF 3 yet

Their foray as Wendy's toys is particularly memorable to me. Especially this guy:

Prime Starscream's alt-mode reminds me of him, quite a bit. Can't wait for him to be released.

I was quite taken with their power suits:

It was good to see them try the same things as TF. Gestalts, my favorite of which was Puzzler. Time hasn't been kind, but the nostalgia is still there.

    We can't forget Rock Lords:

I didn't discriminate as a kid. I had no conceptions of "this line is a rip-off of this," or "this is a shitty line trying to cash-in on TF's success." I know Go-Bots came first, ftr. Just talking in generics.

If it transformed, I was down with it. The real victims are the lines I can't remember the names of and have thus fallen into the cracks of time. If I stay online long enough I'm sure to run across them, though. Someday.

as kids we don't look at things in terms of their originality. true, GB came 1st. i suppose TF simply improved on the concept.

similar to how gi joe improved on action figures after star wars came out with them 1st. (i know gijoe existed before star wars, but SW was 1st to have the 3.75" figures...)

The Gobots are the Kmart version of the Transformers.

The history of Gobots and TFs corresponds more than some think, they were basically developing right alongside each other. It's hilarious how much more ass TFs kicked though.

i remember playing with both interchangeably and not caring they were from different franchises.

i also used to play with my 3.75" gi joes and star wars figures simultaneously. same scale so they could use each other's vehicles. wish i had a pic of cobra commander in an at-st lol

I was actually surprised no one used that earlier lol.

I disliked the Gobots toys, as they always seemed to be of a inferior quality when compared to the Transformers toys. I've lost count of how many Cy-Kill's I had which ended up being dammaged or broken (I may've used one as a projectile for a homemade potato cannon once... but that's just innocent child play ), in comparison to the single Megatron toy which was more complex to transform and in theory, more prone to breakage.

The cartoon/movie of the Gobot franchise was just too... meh for me to really get into. Leader-1 was the wannabe boy scout and I just couldn't like him at all. That, and he aint PRIME! (Optimus fanboy here)

I found this vid on youtube... and it sums up well what the Transformers think of the Gobots... and the robot from the Short Circuit movies:

I was never really into gobots or transformers, I prefered GI Joe and Star Wars myself. (runs away)

Nope. We have an omnibus toy thread, though. There's some other SW threads lurking around. I think Revan might have made a few of them.

Up to you if you want to make a dedicated SW one.

but if this is a bastard cousin to the tf thread, should it also stay on topic?

i personally couldn't care one way or the other.

I had never even heard of Go-Bots until a few years ago.

    And with that I'm out.
