Lunar 1&2, KH1 and FF10. I love you Yuna!
You guys seriously need to play other RPG's than Final Fantasy. There are so many better than the series.
I'm not sure which is the best; very difficult for me to decide. Chrono Trigger is always going to be at the top of the list for me. 10 different endings, being able to replay the game with all your weapons and stats and such, the amount of time you have to put into the game, the storyline. This game always comes to mind when I consider the best RPG ever.
Knights of the old republic one and two, elder scrolls series and final fantasy series.
WTF
I can't decide! i love so many of them! i will list a few instead!
FFVII
Baldurs Gate & Icewind (PC)
Suikoden 2
FFVIII
Big shout out to my muscle MidgarInRuins!
~Thanks to Aztroth for the awesome Sig!~
FFV111 - One of the most beautiful games ever
FFX - Perfect in every way
Pokemon Red - To kick Mewtwo's ass!

Respect the bunny
I gotta say either suikoden1+2
or
Vandal hearts 1
Final Fantasy doesn't even begin to compare to Knights of the Old Republic.
Also, Blood Omen.
Blood Omen was not a true RPG, but a very kick ass game indeed.Originally Posted by Prak
Well, I draw a line between favorite and best, my favorite would be the Baldurs Gate saga, but the best is Chrono Trigger, for the same reason Smokey posted. No single game up to date has had that much multiple endings and game depth to keep playing over and over.
I disagree. I'd say the first Blood Omen counts as an action RPG, even if none of the sequels do.
1. Breath of Fire IV - It had a great battle system, it felt very fluid, and it made a combo magic system that worked very well. The story was very well developed. You actually understood why the villain snapped. And you got to play as him a lot. There were lots of mini games that if nothing else entertained you. You could build a town, fish, and hunt. This game is absolutly perfect.
2. Dungeons and Dragons - Since it is best RPG thread, and granted D&D is tabletop, D&D is still an RPG so I'll talk about that. Think about it, D&D is what started it all. You could actually narrate your own stories, create your own characters, make your own personallity, you can do anything with this game if you have you the immagination.
3. FF7, I don't need to talk this one, I'm not a fanboy. But I do like this game. And I still play it. So uh, yeah.
I think all RPG's are good because it's hard to made right? and thats need and expert right? but above all the great is and of course FINAL FANTASY SERIES from 1 to 12 (if the game out yet) heheeheehhe

I think what he's trying to say is "I think all rpg's are good because its hard to make them right. Above all though, is, of course, the great Final Fantasy series, from 1 through 12 (if the game is out yet, heheheheh.)"Originally Posted by Meihui
D&D is good, but you have to choose the game board master carefully, or so I have heard (I've never played)
I can't just pick one... as I've played quite a few on all the consoles I have. I'll just list my personal favs per console...
NES - Wizards & Warriors series - I have all three of these games, and even if they do fall under the 'Action RPG' title, I still enjoy them.
SNES - Breath of Fire II - This was the first console RPG i ever played, and even now, I still have it in mint condition.
N64 - Unfortunately, there wasn't many which I enjoyed on this console.
GC - I only have Tales of Symphonia at the moment, so I'll list that.
Master System - Same as the N64.
Megadrive - Phantasy Star II sticks out in my mind for this console.... There's just something about it I enjoy.
Mega - CD - Don't have any RPG's for this.
Saturn - Mystaria Realms of Lore - This was thev ery first 3-D strategy RPG I played and loved. It took me about seven years to finally track down a copy.
Dreamcast - Skies of Arcadia - Not just a good RPG, but it had the one thing missing from the FF games.... AIRSHIP BATTLES!
PSX - This is where it gets hard. Choosing from the likes of Vandal Hearts series, Suikoden series, Wild Arms, Persona, Xenogears, Lunar series and the like. Unfortunately I can't choose which one I like the most.
PS2 - At the moment, Shadow Hearts Covenant gets my vote for this console.
Xbox - Jade Empire. Just got it, and already I'm hooked.
PC - Simple... all of the old SSI (Strategic Simulations Incorporated) RPG games. These, while old, are still awesome. Some based on the Forgotten Realms novels or the Dragonlance novels. Even now I still play them, not just for nostalgia reasons, but also because they're good.

I'm not the best...
I'm just real good!
the best one for me would be ff8, ffx and chrono cross.
The best RPGs I played are:
Shadow Hearts Covenant
Star Ocean 2
Suikoden 2 and 3
Lunar 1 and 2
and FFVIII,IX
Tch, Fine--Zell Dincht of FFVIII
Final Fantasy VII (brilliant work of art)
Final Fantasy VI (music has yet to be equaled, melody-wise)
Chrono Trigger (could've done without Chrono Cross, IMHO)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (I love Link; what can I say?)
If you put Cecil from FFIV, Sephiroth from FFVII, and Squall from FFVIII all in the same room for three hours with their weapons and lock the door...
Nothing would happen.
Final Fantasy VI is the one that conjures up the best memories.
I also hold Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross in the highest regard.
Edit: EarthBound and Paper Mario are personal favourites of mine, though many are quick to dismiss them.
My thoughts exactly. Also check out Dark Cloud 2: Dark chronicle and the .hack series.Originally Posted by Smokey
