View Full Version : No Sphere Grid/Summon/Customization Challenge (Spoilers)

Okay, has anyone here ever played and beaten this challenge before? I'm nearly finished with it. I've beaten every boss except the final one and I've gotten all the equipment the strategy I'm reading says to get. Here's the problem:

I do like the strategy says and Mix Trio of 9999 to defeat the first form of Braska's Final Aeon. No problem. Then, I have Tidus use Blitz Ace to do a whole bunch of damage to Final Braska's Final Aeon. Now, here's where the problem comes in. After Tidus uses Blitz Ace, Final Braska's Final Aeon gets a turn. According to the strategy I'm reading he should use Jecht Beam, which will shatter one of my two characters, leaving the other two to finish him off. However, when I fight him, instead of using Jecht Beam, he swings that huge sword of his, finishing off everybody and giving me a Game Over. Help.

hey
when i fought jecht, i found that your way works, but it is random what attack he will use next , so it is kind of random, and he might change the attack to make sure you don't suriv, other then that, auto-phenoix or auto-life would be you best bet

Please go back and read the title of my thread. I don't have auto-phoenix or auto-life. I'm playing a no sphere grid / no summon / no customization challenge. Therefore, there's no way for me to get auto-life because I can't activate anything on the sphere grid and there's no way to get auto-phoenix as I can't customize anything onto armor.

Why would you do this?

Don't you have any extra-cirricular activities you can do at school instead of playing a video game to death?

Go out and get a girlfriend. Then go out for football or whatever. Those two things are tougher to do than beat a game.

hey
sorry, i was paying attention more to the actual problem, well, in that case, it still does not mean that he will always go the way the strategy says it should. Your best bet, would to be sure to use the strongest sword possible( am am not sure if you are playing with or without the strongest weapons, because they don't have to be customized but they do have abilities so you may not. i am thinking along the lines that you are using weapons and armor with NO abilities in them so he is what i would do.

i would get everyone up too their overdrives and just unleash on him, i would also set everyone's overdrive to comrade and healer to make sure that if he does use the Jecht Beam, then your guys should be fairly close to getting their overdrives again, in which case you could keep doing that.

i am also thinking that from your other posts that you don't have the international version, but i still don't ever remember having one of my party members destroyed by the Jecht Beam, but maybe it is case sensitive, i don't know.

Other then that, i don't know how much more i could hepl:confused:

Hey moron, I DO have a girlfriend. Yo momma. She's got a nice ass, and she looks good with her face on the floor. I guess you'd know more about that than I would though, wouldn't you?

I'm the most popular person you'll ever meet. No, put your penis back in, I didn't say meat. I don't swing like that. Does anyone have any anti-retard spray? He got some retard juice on me.

Oh, and next time, mind your own business. I wasn't even talking to you.

Tekno- stuff it.

To lone wolf - thanks. As for the weapons, I'm using Sonic Steel for Tidus so he can get First Strike and the Masamune for Auron so he can get First Strike. As for everybody else, just whatever, since with no stats, it doesn't really matter. For armor, everybody is wearing SOS Haste armor. As for the Overdrives, they really basically do nothing on him until Rikku mixes Trio of 9999. So I'm able to get up to the point of getting to the final form of him, but then he whips out his sword and kills everyone. I guess I'll just try again, maybe he won't use the sword attack. If anybody else has something that might help, let me know.

Go to this page ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and click on the link for the No Summon/S.Grid/Customization Challenge FAQ under "In-Depth FAQs." I'd link it directly, but GameFAQs doesn't allow you to do it. This strategy has carried me so far through everything except this very last battle, so hopefully it'll work for you too.

Agent0042 - i though of this will training in the omega dungeon, even though you are not allowed to customize or what ever, y don't you go to the omega dungeon and fight until you get the weapons you need, some have things you could use like both sos haste as well as strenth up and other stuff like that, so it's not like you would be cheating:p

but ya, you could also do things like go to the cave where you got yojimbo and catch all the monsters, next go fight a don tomberry( at the monster arena) and keep stealing from him. after you can't steal anymore, kill him and if you hit him with an overkill, you stand a pretty good chance of making him drop a black ribbon, which helps protect you from most statues aliments.

once again, other then that, i will have to think some more::(:

It's a nice idea, but remember, this is a game in which I'm playing with no stats. No sphere grid means no stat upgrades which means that if I tried to battle pretty much any monster in the Omega Ruins, I'd get my butt whooped.

Black ribbon? That must be one of those items that's only in the International Version because I've sure never seen it. In any case, same deal. There's pretty much no way I could beat the Don Tonberry without getting totally slaughtered.

Oh, yeah. It's an armor for Lulu. So basically it's just like an armor with stoneproof protection status or whatever. Hmm, in that case, not really helpful. In any case it isn't Jecht Beam that's a problem. It's the sword attack that's the problem. If I could just get him to use Jecht Beam, then that would actually be good. Well, I guess I'll just keep trying at it. I was hoping that somebody here had beaten the challenge and maybe knew something that I didn't, but apparently not.

by the way, i am entering into this challenge

Good luck with it. As long as you follow the strategy at GameFAQs, you should be pretty much good to go. I got killed a few times by several bosses, but there weren't any I absolutely couldn't get through, except for this last one, which I'm still working on.

guess what??, i have the greatest news, the black ribbon i was telling you about in the american version, it's not just for lulu, i had continued to fight and kill Don Tonberry and each time i killed him, i received a black ribbon but each time it was for someone else. so far i have it for Tidus, lulu, wakka, kimarhi and auron, but i still haven't gotten one for rikku, but i will keep trying.

This challenge is tougher then i though, even with the strategy, i had a tough time keeping my guys alive long enough to kill some of the bosses, right now, i have been playing the game none stop and i am up to Guadosalam where i have to fight seymore and his guards, but i don't know how to stop them without stealing their potions(which i don't have thanks to the no sphere grid part of the challenge:( ) but i will kep trying

Hmm. I'll investigate this and see if I can get this. So far I haven't seen it, but it could be possible. I don't know though, because FFX Online's Bestiary, which lists all of the equipment and armor dropped for the American version of the game doesn't say anything about it. So I don't know. In any case, as I mentioned, Jecht Beam isn't the problem. I want him to use that attack.

That form of Seymour gave me trouble too, but not until his final form. Are you using Kimahri's Stone Breath? The strategy says to use Stone Breath. Stone Breath is an instant kill to both of the Guado Guardians and then you don't have to worry about them anymore.

hey,
the good news is that the balck ribbon i was talking about is actually their, but the bad news is that not everyone gets a "black ribbon". i have it for everyone, but each person has different names for their.
Ya, if you want them, just go into a fight with the Don Tonberry and be sure to overkill him, i never got them items unless the final blow was an overkill.

And ya, shortly after i posted that, i went back to the game and relized that the stone breath would work:D , my bad, but now i was having problems killing the final version because of the spells but if you have mighty guard, it really helps, i didn't have the ronso rage, i mixed to thing(can't remember what they were) but ya, got mighty guard and he couldn't touch me for a while so then i just worked him over and killed him as quick as possible.

i find that as long as i stick to the strategy, i am fine, but i am still trying t find new ways around things, like using different effects and things, so far with no luck:notgood:

All right. I'm going to try this in my other save file and see if I can get it. But there's basically no way I could kill him in the challenge file, so I'm not even gonna try it there.

You mean you mixed for Rikku's Hyper Mighty G?

but ya, got mighty guard and he couldn't touch me for a while so then i just worked him over and killed him as quick as possible.
Cool. I basically just followed the strategy when I fought him. I got killed after Anima several times, but afterwards I got lucky and was able to kill him with a Rolling Thunder after a couple other attacks.

Edited: I beat the Don Tonberry and got a Talisman for Rikku with Deathproof, Slowproof and Stoneproof on it. Nice stuff. Too bad that I can't get it in the challenge game, not that it matters anyway.

Anyways, I think I have it figured out: The author of that FAQ made a mistake. The second form of Braska's Final Aeon never uses Jecht Beam as his first attack, inside he always swings his giant sword. I came up with this alternate strategy, but it didn't work either: I let Rikku get killed by the first form, then I used Tidus's Blitz Ace to kill the first form and then I thought that if I could use Wakka's Attack Reels on the second form, I would win. But I didn't. Reason? A perfect Attack Reels from Wakka does 119988 damage, just shy of the 120000 needed to put the second form of Braska's Final Aeon out of its misery. So basically what I need to do is figure out how to get just one more hit in on the second form before I use Wakka's Attack Reels. If I can do that, then it's a win.

Anyways, it seems there's basically no way to get an extra turn, so I'm pretty much giving up on this now. Unless somebody else figures out something that I'm just not thinking of, it would seem it's basically just impossible to beat the final form in this challenge.

If his attacks are random, then you should keep trying over and over again until he uses Jecht Beam...

Also, you may want to get a Chocobo Feather or Wing or something so you can get Haste on a character and he or she might get that extra turn...

Assuming that it is random. I'm beginning to think that isn't and that the second form only swings that huge sword as its first move, it doesn't use Jecht Beam. And even if it rarely does, I'm sick of replaying for it to happen anyway. There's only so many times I'm willing to hunt for crystals and do all of the other rigamarole before you even get to the battle.

Also, you may want to get a Chocobo Feather or Wing or something so you can get Haste on a character and he or she might get that extra turn...
All of my characters are already in Haste. The strategy requires that you get SOS Haste armor from drops before you start the battle and then get your characters into critical status before the battle so they're good to go and already in Haste.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I tried using Auron's Shooting Star on him. The CTB order said that I would get an extra turn, but it didn't actually happen. My guess is that Final Braska's Final Aeon is probably immune to everything, except maybe Zombie, not that that's helpful in this case.

Anyways, congratulations in any case, completing the challenge except for the final boss. It took me a while to figure out how to capture all the monsters, but I did it. If you come up with something that works for the final boss, let me know. I'll want to try it out myself and I'll also be impressed.

MAN,
i was so close, i had killed the first form then he pulled out his sword, i kept using rikku's mix to kill those totem poll things so that they couldn't power him up, i then used auron's tornado and brought him down even lower. i then waited for a while and healed to try and keep my guys alive. then i used rikku's mix to give me trio of 9999 then i had tidus ready with blitz ace, on his next turn, i would use it then i would only have to deal with Yu Yevon. but on his last turn, the bastered swung his sword and almost killed everyone, then for no reason at all, he swung again and killed everyone, i am so pissed. i swear, i will not sleep until i get this beat.

Nanaki's correct. If you're summoning Aeons, then you're not doing the same challenge as me and must not be looking at the same strategy either. Because the one I'm playing doesn't allow you call any Aeons, with the exception of the very rare cases where the game requires you to call an Aeon. ya, all i did was i went to the calm lands were the monsters were weak but strong enough to get rikku's overdrive up, then i played around and looked on the internet for things to mix to give me auto-life or regen, or something along that line. then after he hit me, i would have the auto-life used but my guys were so weak that i didn't have a way to get rikku's limit back up before he swung again, and i didn't want to waste their turns healing either, i didn't see a point since his turn was coming up and their was nothing i could do. i heard somewhere that if you talk to him he misses a turn, but that is bull, it just makes is overdrive stop going up for that turn, he never missed one with me.

that is why i am trying to find a way to make something that will make me invinsible for one of his turns so i can survive long enough to get her overdrive back up. their was also talk about something like aura from FF8 that will give you instant overdrive, but i think it full of shit, i have tried everything, from the buyable items to the rares of them all, i even mixed, a door to tommorow and a musk!, but that did nothing but cast death on the enemies which were immune to it.

rikku's mix is something that is going to take time, and i think she might be the key to winning this battle with nothing helping me.

[Only registered and activated users can see links] - this'll tell you everything you need to know for Rikku's mix. Oh, and no, there's nothing that gives anyone an instant overdrive. There is stuff that increases the speed at which the overdrive gauge fills, but remember that disappears if you get KOed. Agent0042

Well, 0*2=0 and in this case, a small amount times 2 is still a small amount. At best, it would take characters that were around 500-1000 HP and double them to 1000-2000 HP. Not nearly enough.

Agent0042 is right, i tried that many times, it doesn't work, he just kills you quicker because you wasted a turn trying that, i even tried doing it man times to one character to get them 9999, but the tonic only works once on each person. and considering his sword hits for between 2000-3000 each person, you don't last long anyways. by the way, i found a mixture that gave me everything you get with mighty guard plus auto life, but i was killed so quickly that i never could recall what i mixed, so i think it was a mega-phenoix and something else, but i am not sure.

ya, we have been doing that, but Agent0042 has it right, wakka only misses by a couple, and it gives him enough time to swing and kill us. what i am trying to do, is to make something that will help us to survive the swing, long enough so that i can get a few more attacks in to kill him.....no luck as of yet:(

P.S- if anyone cares, this strategy also works in the omega dungeon, but you can usually win those battles, and after i kill Jecht and Yu Yevon, i'm goin after omega......i am really going to need some help with that one :erm:

You could probably go after Omega now. Trio of 9999 followed by a single perfect Attack Reels should be enough to do him in. Same for Ultima. The only problem I foresee is making it there, you have to have some good luck with escaping the battles on the way there. Of course, if you get No Encounters, then that pretty much eliminates that problem.

Not completely... It eliminates most of the problem but still there's some enemies you have to fight...

How much damage does the sword hit thing do?

Well, there are those automatic battles on the path to Omega. I'm not sure, but I think those can be escaped from. If not, then Trio of 9999 and Attack Reels should take care of them.

From what I recall, at least 2000-3000. More than enough to kill characters without any stats or customized armor.

hey,
ya ,you can run from the mosters on the way down, except i had to spend time fighting more monsters because i could never escape from the Tonberry king or whatever he is called. ya shortly after i posted that, i went down to the cave, beat omega and got the ronso rage " Nova" man, that thing is awsome, but i am trying to fit it into my fight with Jecht, but i haven't be succesful yet:eye:.

but ya, i also though of a new thing, when Jecht swings the sword, i have tried doing things like sentinal and all of that to possibly keep one person alive, but no, when i have tidus do it, he is already dead before the sword reachs the others on the team:notgood:

hell, i think i might give it up for a while but i will still try to think of a new way to beat him.

i've only found one way to beat Jecht..... in other words, yes i have tried this challenge and succesfully beat it......

the hardest boss was either Jecht or Seymour #2. the reason serymour #2 was hard was cuz i hardly had items and i didnt have stone breath. i barely won. i had my last turn, if i wouldnt have killed him i would've had a game over. luckily he had 200 hp and Auron was alive. :D

Yes, please, Vivi, if you've done it, then for goodness sakes, tell us. What did you do? Because we can't get past that sword attack. Seymour wasn't a problem for me. I lost several times, but I knew if I had patience, I could beat him. But we just can't figure out how to beat this sword attack. What did you do that we're no doing?

Vivi
01-26-2003, 02:55 PM
i had to plan it so that he can't attack you at all. this is cuz all his attacks can kill everyone in 1 hit.....

my strategy is all about timing. you have to do it the EXACT same every time. sorry, i can't remember it off by heart..... hahahaha

The Post: [Only registered and activated users can see links]

No offense, but it sounds to me that Vivi is lying... Still no offense but what he said is kinda suspicious... You'd hear/see someone saying that if s/he was lying about something... But Vivi could be telling the truth...

Thanks for doing that. I tried adding the author of the guide to my list on AIM, but he's never online and I wouldn't be surprised if he's not even available with the name he put in that guide anymore. Hopefully this'll yield some results. As for Vivi's claim, I kinda thought that too, but wasn't going to say it.

its not even hard to do..... right now i'm catching monsters. hopefully later i can beat nemesis. noits not impossible, its been done before.....

Hmm, or maybe the problem is that we're just not on the same page...

What we're talking about here is No Summon, No Sphere Grid and No Customization. That means not touching a single aeon except in those cases where the game requires it, never activating a single node on the Sphere Grid and not using the Customize feature on a single weapon or armor. Now, you're talking about beating Nemesis, which I know is possible on a game where just have No Sphere Grid, but really is simply impossible on a game with NSNSGNC. So I'll ask again, are you sure we're talking about the same thing?

Vivi
01-26-2003, 08:42 PM
ya, i realised that i was just doing a NSG game. i sued aeons. but i tried it without aeons. so i typed this up, i think its right. and this strategy should work without custimizing weapons.....

first off you need Auto-Haste with Auron, Tidus and Yuna. use talk with tidus for his turns and switch auron with rikku. then i use 2 blessed gems to kill the Pagoda things. since tidus used talk jecht won't attack (i'm sure you knew that). switch yuna with wakka, and delay wakkas turn. then use trio of 9999 and use attack reels. there, first form defeated, easy right?

since you used Talk, Jecht should do nothing. then use blitz ace and hope for 9 attacks which is easy. the pagodas should come back. jecht has a turn now, and he SHOULD use Jecht beam. hope to god that he goes for tidus or wakka. now attack with wakka or tidus, whoever is alive. then use a gem. now, he should hopefully be dead. if not, you might have another turn i think..... so use it wisely.....

btw, a nemesis No sphere grid/summon/custimize game has been done before.....

Agent0042

How do you get Auto-Haste without customization? I know you can get SOS Haste, but I'm not sure about Auto Haste.

Okay, so far.

Still doing okay.

jecht has a turn now, and he SHOULD use Jecht beam.
Uh oh, rewind the tape. This is where lone wolf and I end up losing. The strategy we looked at also says that he should use Jecht Beam. But he doesn't. Without fail, he always swings that huge sword of his, killing everyone and giving a Game Over.

btw, a nemesis No sphere grid/summon/custimize game has been done before.....
Okay, this absolutely blows my mind. How? With his 10,000,000 HP it would take eons to kill him without Break Damage Limit. Also, his attacks hit for 99,999 damage to either one character or all characters. How do you avoid that?

Vivi
01-27-2003, 01:43 PM
hmmmm... i guess i did customize auto-haste. but if you went into the battle with half your HP, and you had SOS-Haste, you should be in haste right?

i think that with haste, yuo will be him before he gets a chance to attack you.

Agent0042
01-27-2003, 04:15 PM
Yeah, we're in Haste, but as mentioned, it doesn't work. Tidus is able to use Talk to prevent two turns. But we haven't been able to figure out how to prevent him from getting just one turn and swinging that ridiculously overly-huge sword of his, killing everyone. It's so close, but it just isn't quite there.

Vivi FF

Maybe you should have BFA attack you in his first form, maybe it'd give you more turns...?

Or maybe find a weapon that has Initiotive (sp?) and use it to get an extra turn or two...

Hmm, I thought about that one. The problem is that if you do that, that ends up killing at least one character, which is basically a death sentence to the entire strategy. BTW, I noticed your thread at Game FAQs got some replies. Basically the same stuff as here though. I went ahead and registered on GameFAQs and posted a response.

Hmm, I don't know. What Initiative does is increase the chances of a Preemptive Strike. But I don't think it's possible to get a Preemptive Strike in a boss battle.

hey,
sorry it has been so long, i have been busy, but i did manage to fit some FFX in :). As i was reading that last strategy you guys posted, i was also thinking about trying to make him do his turn in the beginning and hope for something not as earth shattering as sword swing, but it never happened that way. i even tryed to delay his attacks with tidus in different ways, but so far, i have not beaten him yet.

by the way, i still am playing around wtih rikku and i think i may have found a way to give all the things we need, but the items i need are not that easy to come by, but i will keep trying and will let you know my progress.

Thanks, but it looks like somebody at the GameFAQs message board is onto something. Check out the newest post at [Only registered and activated users can see links]

It sounds very credible and I'm going to try it and see if it works.

Edited to say: It WORKED! All hail franmars of the GameFAQs board! Also thanks to Vivi FF for getting the thread going at that board. To sum it up, here's how it goes: Do everything as normal with killing the first form with Trio of 9999 and Wakka's Attack Reels. Then, when the second form shows up, do not use Blitz Ace. Switch Tidus out of the battle for Yuna. Yuna switches weapons twice. Now, Braska's Final Aeon will have an attack, but this time, since his second form has not taken any damage, he should use either Jecht Beam or a normal attack. As long as he doesn't hit Rikku, you are good to go. Switch out either Yuna or Wakka for Tidus (whoever wasn't killed) and have Tidus use Blitz Ace. Rikku now uses a Fire Gem, which should be enough to kill him. From there, it's just the Aeons and Yu Yevon and that's a cakewalk. You've now beaten the hardest challenge of Final Fantasy X.

i'm trying the NSG monster arena challenge. you guys can join me. it would be pretty much impossible to do it with no aeons or custimize.

but if you do it, try not to do it using Zanmato (or whatever its called). if you don't know what it is, it kills ANY enemie in one hit. thats right, anything. even nemesis. its just really hard to do..... but gamefaqs has a strategy on how to get yojimbo to do it lots.

i guess i will try the NSG challenge first, so i think i might just continue using my game i have already.

well, ff10 was too easy for me. they should have different difficulties. like expert mode or something. (i'm kidding).

for capturing monsters, you pretty much have to custimze. it would be so frickin hard to catch 10 of everything with only capture on your weapon. i suggest having 1 person with Deathstrike on their capture weapon, 1 with Stonestrike, and 1 with anything you want (but First Strike would be helpful so you can run away)

Well, I'm not planning to start over to customize. Since I already have the NSGNSNC game, it shouldn't be too hard to convert it. I'm not planning to do it right now though, as I'm currently working on another save file.

I think they did that for Kingdom Hearts, so it's not necessarily a bad idea. But you're right. When you think about the fact that the game can be beat without ever touching the Sphere Grid, Customizations, or summoning Aeons (except in those cases when you have to), it really does seem kind of easy.

there was normal and expert on kingdom hearts. if you ask me theres no difference at all.

but if you look on the other side, ff10 gave me trouble when i first got it. after beating it a bunch it becomes easy cuz you pretty much know everything..... its not really meant to be played so much. i've had it for over 1 year and a month and i still play it. xD

And i agree, but you also have to remember that their were only certain things you could do to beat the game with NSGNCNS , it's not like you could play right thru, and most fights, it took cheating and dirty little tricks to kill the monsters and bosses, but i see what your talking about

anyway, how is everyone doing in the challenge game?

Yeah, okay. I guess what lone wolf means is those little things like that which almost make it too easy. That and the fact that it actually isn't doable the first time you play through because you need the Al Bhed Primers to get the Gambler's Spirits from Rin. I guess it's sort of like the W-Item trick in FFVII, which I consider to be more like cheating than anything that's done in this challenge.

Although, I guess you're kind of right, lone wolf. The first time I played through the game, there were several bosses that gave me trouble. So I suppose it is true that it's only after you've beat it that it becomes easy.

anyway, how is everyone doing in the challenge game?

Well, I've taken a look at the NSG monster arena challenge and I've basically decided that I don't want to do it. I was willing to do the NSG/NS/NC challenge, but this challenge is talking about taking aeons to ridiculously high levels and possibly having to battle Shinryu more than 500 times in order to win. I don't think I want to do it. I think I'll just cut my losses, get FFIX as soon as I can and just forget about FFX for a while.
