Haha, Scoreman is mean man - waving a candy in front of bunch of kids. What is funny here, is that some of you seem to say: I would like to have this candy, but looking at it is also cool;). 64k? Really? Scoreman the Merciful;). We've got 3 CDs, basically whole score from the movie and U R still not full? Don't ask, don't beg, leave guy and his 5 CDs alone.

Scoreman, this is just mean for all the people who did NOT press the issue, did NOT insult you, did NOT go on your nerves at all, who just crave for the 5cd set.

This makes you not better than those jerks that offended you, it even makes you worse. They are just what they are, pathetic idiots - its in their blood. You however have chosen to punish the others just because you can. Hurting people just because you are stronger. That's more than mean.

I would have really, really, really liked the 5cd set and I am sure I even had nice things to trade, but I don't participate in blackmail. Just out of principle.

I am really sorry for you that you have to resort to such pointless means to get your little revenge. Why punish the innocent? Just because they are easy to punish?

I am of course fully aware that the mods will probably ban my account because saying ones opinion is strictly prohibited now it seems. But I prefer to stand up and say what I mean. Its the honest way. If you have problems with certain braindeads, please sort it out with THEM, not with US, the rest.

Why 64kbs ?

Some of us have been patient and would have expected way better quality than 64kbs-say 320kbs or 256.

And a better filehost.

Into The Storm's upload is the best example of a great upload.

This isn't.

Trolls will be trolls, but you don't have to punish the many for the sins of a few.

Just my 2 cents.

The fact of the matter was i mentioned it because i presume the *3cd* would have it all, rather them being hoodwinked into believing it was a 3cd set when in fact it was a 2cd, yes my bad... now i initially confessed into having it to help out the mono tracks, but later found out that the version that was uploaded was missing shit loads and then i got bombarded into begging for it to be uploaded...

I never once *before the begging* said i would upload it, i simply said i would upload the stero tracks! but since i cant be seen as an honest man doing an honest few weeks work without being made out to be a cunt and would never upload it, kinda infuriated me to a point where i did think to myself, fuck the lot of you.. Perhaps rather rash on my behalf...

But on principal, i am not going to make it available to all (as those that were lucid enough to make snide comments) why should you have it, why should i give it to you..

Lesson learnt i hope!

You really need all the attention that badly? You are pathetic. You can keep your frackin' score, which you probably don't have in anything higher than 64k anyway.

Hit the nail on the head you did.

Most of you don't obviously know scoreman before he was scoreman. He never intended on sharing anything with any of you. When he gets something super rare, he loves to tease, and when it doesn't become super rare anymore, then he lets it go. How do I know this? Well, mainly because of mine and others history in the past with him, and second, he kept changing his stories. First, it was because he wasn't even in the same country he couldn't access it, but then somehow he managed to upload a single supposed track from it. How'd he do that? Second, it was he was so busy he couldn't get around to it. Yet, somehow he manages to respond to every single post of mine and others about it, and quite quickly. And then third, when I called him out on it, his reasons changed to well first you upload said score, and then I will? You see how everything with him changes? This is exactly what he does.

All of his stories and excuses are really thrown into the garbage with all of this though, because now apparently he is providing a 5disc 64kbps copy? Do you see what I mean? He's a storyteller and a flip flopper.

And what he's doing here... not surprised at all. I laughed my ass off because its exactly what I expected.

I could care less. I am not mad at scoreman about not providing a 5disc copy of Avatar. I just wanted to let everyone know not to expect it despite what he says because I know the way he rolls. And I know a lot of people have been waiting for him. So I just wanted to let you guy's all know he likely was never going to provide it. And yeah, this whole thread by him, its just a performance now to use me as ANOTHER BS excuse for not providing it.

I'm not even convinced what he has is even legit. I run the circles myself, hence how I obtained the 3cd of Avatar to begin with. And the circles on my end know nothing of a 5disc Avatar. But hey, maybe it is real, and maybe if you kiss his ass enough, he'll give it to you. Not the way I work.

I don't know what the deal is with into the storm and scoreman (referring to their personal dealings/issues with each other) but scoreman has proven to me (and I believe him completely) that he has this 5-disc set in high quality.

I am grateful to both him and into the storm, because if it wasn't for into the storm's 3-disc upload I never could have made that custom edit I did to begin with. (as for all the requests for it I'm still getting, I'll deal with that separately). I can say that by listening to a few tracks of this 64kbps upload, my edit can go into the toilet as far as I'm concerned, because regardless of bitrate, scoreman has the REAL FUCKING DEAL here.

I believe him. Some don't. Some are bitter about it as though this is one big tease. Fuck the bitter people, because remember NO ONE HAS PAID FOR ANYTHING HERE. The original uploaders of all the music on this board paid for the source CDs and shared them with others and they get NOTHING for their courtesy.

The sense of entitlement is sickening.

But what do I know? Fuck me too.

Now, i am going to watch a dvd with my family, havent seen them for a long time! then i shall rip avatar to 320k... I will not post it in the thread or make a new one.. i shall simply respond to those that PM me (i dont want to start another thread and cause more shit)

As someone noted earlier its really amazing how JH really got into making music for this movie. I didn't really "notice" the music during the two times i watched the movie, but maybe thats a testament to how well it blended with the visuals.

Hats off to the poster of all the great music and i hope the 5CDs or 20 CDs or whatever are fully released and one day available for purchase!

It's probably a guarantee that an mp3 version will be provided down the line by someone else who downloads the lossless version. That's pretty much how things go around here - someone provides a lossless album for CD burning, and then a compressed mp3 alternative/supplement. appears.

Besides, I doubt anyone puts uncompressed WAVs on their iPods. It doesn't make any sense to do that. I assume when you copy a CD to your computer for iPod use, you're converting it to something else first.

You can't put FLAC on an iPod. FLAC is mainly used for people uploading lossless music and storage/archival purposes to minimize file size, not playback.

Putting WAVs on an iPod is not only a huge waste of space, but a drain on the iPod's battery life.

For best results, use 256kbps AAC when converting your music for your iPod, or even the higher 320kbps AAC.

If you must have lossless audio on your iPod, then use the Apple Lossless format. These options are in the "import settings" in Preferences.

The 256kbps AAC is what iTunes uses as their format for music in the iTunes Store.

Glad I could be of help with ID-4. :) I know that score inside and out. Did my own DVD rip of tracks 2 and 3 from Disc 2 (well from Virus Uploaded to the end of Track 3) which I included on my iPod when I put the boot on.

Looking forward to hearing the music from tracks 2 and 3 on Disc 2 outside of the film for a change. I even emailed MV asking if track 3 contains any unused music, since in the film it was pretty obvious the music was edited. He replied back saying, "Yes it does".

I think Disc 2 will be the first thing I listen to since I pretty much know all of Disc 1 all ready. Looking forward to also hearing some of those alternates.

It's like you read my mind, man. :)

It's my all-time favorite score, and the score that turned me on to film music. I made a 'definitive' expanded score using the best elements of both boots and the original CD, and it's obvious by the track list that at least some of the alternates on disc 2 are what's on the boot.

I must say, I hate those track titles. They're ridiculous, and while I can understand the comedy of it, they just aren't any good.

First thing I'm going for is the film versions of the final battle music, just to hear it on its own for the very first time (and without the obvious loops) and then go for the alternates, then the whole score chronologically. :)

And I LOVE that "Just in Case" is on there, as it was cut off all the other boots!

It's just the amount of music on each CD - each disc is not filled to capacity, so it took more discs. That's all. Rather than filling each disc with 75 or 80 minutes, they're a little shorter. More discs because of a shorter running time per disc.

65x4 = 260 minutes

It's not so strange that length per CD.

But it is always more spectacular to say 2CD rather than 1 single CD I guess.

If you mean the music at the end when Jake fully joins his Avatar before the "End Credits" music starts...that's tracked music. I think it's tracked from "Climbing Up Iknimaya".

Edit: By the way I noticed there's a lot of unnecessary silence before and after cues for this set. If that silence is removed, chances are it will probably only be 3, maybe 4 CD's. When the 3-CD set surfaced I noticed the silence and removed it and the score easily fit onto 2-CD's.

I've discovered something via rear channel DVD rip. The first part of the finale cue is definitely tracked from "Climbing Up Iknimaya", however for the second part it's from the cue "Eyes Open" on the 5-CD set (the 64k version).

Understatement. :)

The one cue I've wanted from the film itself is "Southampton", since it's so different from the album. "Leaving Port" is also different, but it has some of the album version of Southampton tracked into the ending of that sequence.

The great thing about a lossless version is that silence can be removed without re-encoding /compressing the music.

The percussion at the end of "Eyes Open" in the film isn't there, but the DVD/Blu-ray is 'clean' enough to utilize it right out of the film.

There was some "B-roll" footage of the making of the film, and among the random segments was a lot of scoring session clips. In several clips you see Horner begin conducting "Climbing up Ikinimaya", and it's the film version (with the build up of percussion like on this set) and what's so interesting about that, is that Horner recorded pre-edited cues in addition to the fuller, longer cues of the same music, rather than simply cutting it after the fact. Very nice.

Then Neytiri defends his "lifeless" body. Is it tracked from Viperwolves or is it more unreleased music, cause its very good. The Quaritch pulls plug on the set is just an alt version of Scorched Earth again. This unreleased music does segue into No Reason, yes.

The "Quaritch Pulls The Plug" cue may be an alternate, but it is completely different from the two versions of "Scorched Earth". In the film you're correct about that scene using part of "Viperwolves", as well as bits and pieces of "Quaritch" and more of the harsher tribal percussion.

There is a LOT of music here that wasn't in the film, and it's fantastic music. If more people had a chance to hear this, James Horner would likely have been the recipient of a lot more positive comments about this score, since it's so fleshed out compared to the original commercial album. That album really doesn't do this score justice. He's been unfairly criticized (moreso than he usually is) about this score and it's a damn shame.

Vosk
04-26-2010, 11:17 PM
I agree the album definitely doesn't do the score justice. Ya he uses bits and pieces of his older material (like that is any different with his other scores? lol) from his older scores into this one. Yet at the same time this one to me has a big vibe of old school Horner. Especially when it comes to tracks such as "War", "Quartich Down" and "Fight To The Death".

TTYT
04-26-2010, 11:32 PM
Yeah, I really think they should've put the Thanatos chase music, "Quaritch Down" and "Fight to the Death" on the commercial album. That probably would've changed a lot of people's opinion. (They did stick the demo version of "Fight to the Death" on the Deluxe Edition under the title "The Death of Quaritch," just to note.) It's not a masterpiece, in my opinion, but it's still one hell of a score.

I'm assuming there will be probably be a special release of a lot more music for this somewhere down the line, probably in time for the Special Edition DVD that's rumoured for November.

I agree with Vosk. This score could please old school Horner fans and new school Horner fans alike. You have the ferocity of the days of ALIENS (complete with his creature motif) and WILLOW, and then you also get the more touch feely new age Horner of late. The album unfortunately doesnt fully represent this combination, even WAR is truncated to part 1 only. Its another love story tone poem. Look at how badly the commercial release of PEARL HARBOR represented that movie's score (Perhaps due to ghost writing)

In my humble Opinion Avatar mirors the complete Musical arts of Horner Life. You may find hints and cues from his earliest 80s style like Battle beyond the stars and STar Trek, through his 90s style like Mighty Joe Young and Titanic up til now.

So AVATAR really is a Compedium of his entire works. It is a shame that it is treated so badly though and this 5 CD Set is the real honour to him.

"The percussion at the end of "Eyes Open" in the film isn't there, but the DVD/Blu-ray is 'clean' enough to utilize it right out of the film."

Forgive my ignorance - but how would one do that?

Thanks in advance, John

Is it good? Is it valuable after the complete score 3CDs?

And anyone has the 5 version in high quality yet, right?

To JHFan,
as you seem to have spent a lot of time with this score, doing your great 2cd edit:

Have you noticed if there's any difference between "Into the Navi World (cd mix)" and "2m2 - Unused redo"? They both seem the same track (besides that small editing error at the end of "Into the Navi World")

The same goes for "The Bioluminiscence of the Night" and "4m5 - Unused". At a first listen, they seem to be the same track.

This set is incredible. There's a lot of music not available before that leaves me breathless.

That error (which for reasons unknown made the official Avatar Music website) was clearly done after the fact, and it sounds like the "unused redo" is the same recording just without that problem in it.

I wasted my money buying the deluxe iTunes CD, since "Pandora" was made of two cues on this 5-CD set, the latter half released previously, the first half being an "unused original demo" here. Despite the synths since it is a demo, it's now one of my favorites.

The Bioluminescence cue does sound the same, but the lengths of each cue are different only because of the silence at the end.

Interesting to note...what's labeled as Alternate Opening for "Quartich Down", is actually in the film...that brief stint at the beginning before the main action music kicks in. That stint plays before it shows the Thanators charging from the woods towards the Marines.

I'm very excited about this. Getting the chance to assemble this into a flowing, cohesive album. Got it all planned out:

-chronological presentation of the original unedited cues
-chronological presentation of alternates (presented on their own to prevent a redundancy in playback)
-Na'vi source music
-adding the inserts to the unedited cues if they allow for it (if they won't be a natural fit they won't be included so they will remain on their own)

I've given this way too much thought, but this score is worth it. Completely in love with it.

That sound really and would make like a definitive presentation of all this material :-)

By the way, another repeated cue seems to be "7m1 - The Skypeople Are Coming" and "xxxx Quaritch (not used)".

Also, I didn't find in the whole set the vocal performance heard at the end of the album version of "Jake's First Flight".

As a hobby, I sequence music to picture, making a DVD isolated score-type presentation of a soundtrack, only the difference is I edit the picture to fit the music, not the other way around as it is normally done for film. I call it "Film Music Highlights", and I've seen others sometimes do this on youtube (but honestly I don't care to watch others do this because this is something I've been doing for years and care deeply about - it's my thing that I do. Dammit. )

This is a segment I put together, using the unedited film versions of "War", "The Battle Continues" and "Quaritch Down".

What is most interesting about this segment is I've not done any editing to it whatsoever - the music simply fits the film PERFECTLY.

For all his skills as a filmmaker, music editing is one area where James Cameron IS AN IDIOT.

This video will demonstrate just why that is.

It is 100 MB in size, 15 minutes long. MP4 format.

The image and sound quality is poor, because I wanted to limit the file size to 100 MB to make it uploadable quickly. It's roughly Youtube quality. My source file is of course DVD quality, save for the music since the source of the music was this 64kbps album.

However quality has no bearing on impact, and this video makes an impact. Thank James Horner for being such a spot-on composer, whom Cameron should have trusted.

Right-click and SAVE the file to your computer. DO NOT PLAY THIS FILE directly off the link. I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH. SAVE IT, DON'T STREAM IT.

WAR - as originally conceived and composed by James Horner - SAVE ME, DON"T STREAM ME ([Only registered and activated users can see links] p4)

Your perception of the sequence will likely change, since this is how Horner originally envisioned it before Cameron hacked it up.

Great work! This is much better than the original film version, cause that is exactly what Horner wanted to do. But for some odd reason, Cameron wanted something different. Especially the scene where Trudy gets shot. In Horners original version it's kind of a 'hopeless venture'. In Camerons version it's just the opposite. That's sad, but I'm afraid we have to live with it...

Oh.. my.. god. I have absolutely no idea why they butchered the "War" cue so much in the final film version. The original is absolutely brilliant and spot on, especially the part where Jake starts attacking the ships. The only part I thought was kinda underpowered in the original version was when Trudy shows up with her chopper. Anyway, thanks a lot for this JHFan, it was quite a ride ;)

Too many. Literally. I've done a lot of scores like this, from Titanic, to Star Trek 1, 2, 3, First Contact, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Godzilla, ID4, Courage Under Fire, Flightplan, The Forgotten, Troy, Casper, Ransom, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids....and more.

None are online because I couldn't possibly put them up. I have no website or personal ftp or anything, and the few videos I've put on youtube took forever to upload there. Wasn't worth the trouble.

If and when this music is provided in a higher quality, I will replace the audio track and encode a new video file - my source video file is DVD quality and I simply made a copy in a smaller, lower-quality format to share.

The only part I thought was kinda underpowered in the original version was when Trudy shows up with her chopper.

But the replacement music was all wrong - it was dropped in with no musical flow at all, and forced a false sense of heroics. The whole idea was that it was a hopeless cause - a suicide mission and in some cases, including Trudy, it was just that. The whole endeavor was tragic.

Sadly I must agree. The "War" track is one of my favorites in the album, and the music flows beautifully... but in the film it kinda follows the pattern set by the Star Wars prequel trilogy, butchered music fitted wherever the director wants, without a sense of development. But hey, it could be worse! The Troy director's cut, was even worse for Horner's music, as it cut and pasted at most horrible places, and had the Achille vs Hector cue replace by the temp track from... Planet of the Apes!
Maybe the longer cut of Avatar in theaters, or even longer cut on Blu-ray later these year will correct things up... one can only dream

04-28-2010, 01:45 PM
hey jhfan. Here's a project for you, just a suggestion for your future special edit. Try to take all the temp tracks that make up the tribal ambience underscoring what should be 'quaritch pulls plug', before it crossfades into 'no reasoning' in the film. I think it consists of the drones from
'exploring', percussion and shak from 'viperwolves' and possibly the banshee music. I know its another taste of fox and cameron hacking and slashing, as in what happened to aliens' score, but its quite effective in the movie. I wonder what it would sound like outside the movie.

JHFan, Jacky here...I watched this today at work, had headphones on. I'm sitting here watching this and as Trudy enters the scene, I hear myself say 'Oh my god' and no doubt got goosebumps watching. As you and I have PM'd, the War cue got hacked to crap, and now that I see the original put to picture, I realize the brilliance of Horner. The climactic chorus line, rising into the symbol crash, then into the strings movement is incredible and rightly deserves its place in the movie.

I'm now spoiled watching this and will forever be thinking of the original cue during this scene of the movie.

The problem with that original unedited version is that it doesn't fit that sequence as is at all. The music is just too long for that sequence.

When I'm doing my editing, often times I'll use slow motion in certain scenes to stretch a sequence out to fit the music. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

the theatrical re-release has a confirmed 6 minutes of additional footage, which will be most likely everything they add. one of the new scenes can be identified via the 5cd set: The Hunt, and there will be scenes with grace as school teacher for the Na`vI children. Don´t get your hopes to high up for something fancy. However they add a scene with some animals which don´t appear in the current version (maybe part of the hunt). but re-editing of the score...never.

Some of those 40 minutes will be unfinished. The second Blu-ray/DVD release (coming in November) will have the same six minutes of footage completed for a theatrical re-release, in addition to a longer "workprint" version with animatics and other unfinished shot placeholders.

I wouldn't say he's a total idiot when it comes to music...I mean, look at the climactic scene of Aliens when Ripley defeats the alien queen - the original music Horner wrote for that was the "Resolution & Hyperspace" cue. That cue was a great, hopeful, perfect finale cue - when it was tracked into the end of Die Hard. Cameron tracked in "Bishop's Countdown" instead, and made that scene far more exciting and gripping.

I think it's supposed to be 6 minutes of new footage. The maximum length a movie can be released in analog IMAX theaters seems to be 170 minutes. But yes, Cameron said there was about 40 minutes of unused material in total. As much as I like it, I don't think I could sit through 200 minutes of Avatar though. haha I feel exactly the same way - I guess a lot of other things can be accomplished while listening to five hours worth of music (artwork, reading, schoolwork, etc), but it is a bit confining having to sit in a theatre to see a 200 minute movie that many of us have already seen at least twice...
(Not to mention the ticket prices!)

I would really like to see the unreleased footage coupled with its intended score, though.

I guess if they really wanted to, they could have an intermission or part I and part II...

Single layer DVD - 4.35 GB
Dual Layer DVD (most movies are on dual layer discs) - nearly 8.5 GB

Single layer Blu-ray - 25 GB
Dual Layer Blu-ray - 50 GB

The deleted/extended scenes were on a third disc. All of them were completely finished up to the quality of the film itself. I made an extended version of the film with them.

But will that famous 40-mins. included in movie? Or will be in bonus, like in rerelease of "Dune"?

That has been answered several times now. Read the last few posts above to see that.

I don't think so. I assume it's just a matter of timing - getting the free time to upload such large files.

I'm afraid only scoreman knows the answer to those questions. But yes, the tags are rather interesting. There's all kinds of album tags, like "complete score", "sessions" or even "rough mixes" and a lot of them mention the total amount of discs, namely "4 of 4". There are also various covers embedded in a lot of the files. It's almost as if the files came from three or more sources. On the other hand, it's just tags...

I think we're have a deal with some kind of "bootleg of bootlegs" created from different rough mixes and recording sessions of score. I'd like to call it just "complete recording sessions" = CRS.

I have just read the other thread created by Into The Storm and i noticed Scoreman say that he also had rough edits... It could be that Scoreman has added everything in as best as chronological order as possible? That would certainly justify the tag entries!

The disc 4 of 4 scenario would appear to be the original 4cd Scoreman said he had plus (i am only assuming) a 1 cd of rough edits/mixes... I am not sure, but i am guessing the entries that were labelled xxxx are from the actual commercial release. They appear to be similar (will not say same as i am not sure) as the commercially released tracks... Or they could be possibly variants on the track ala rough mixes that didnt make it to the movie, who knows? I dare say Scoreman. Either way, this is an amazing release and cannto wait for the upgraded bitrate, not that the 64k bitrate is bad actually, it is certainly good quaility considering it is indeed 64k.

i think the original release not contain tracks names but only reels name like :

1m1
1m2 (v1.5)
1m2
1m3 (v5.1)
2m1
2m2

etc etc....

Scoreman had the decency to use the vbr option when he encoded the 64k files. That preserved a lot of the sound quality. I'm glad there was none of those 'tunnel' artifacts that usually come with such a crunch. Thanx again for your goldmine, Scoreman.

It seems it was originally a 4cd set, then there were added some new material and was arranged a 5cd set. Still, it's not well arranged as there 3 repeated tracks.

Also, note that the vocal performance from the last of part "Jake's First Flight" (album version) is not available on any of the recording sessions tracks, so I'm thinking these are not the complete recording sessions, and still there's some material missing.

Next we'll probably find out that they made a 7 disc set.

I am a SLSK user and noticed a user on there *The Eleventh Hour* has the 5cd set in WAV but when i went to view his files i could not find it, but in search it appeared to have more tracks than this 5cd set. Perhaps someone can grab it and upload it (if they can find it) i did leave a message but no answer of yet

Sorry SLSK = Soulseek (i am sure most, if not all knew that, just wanted to check :))

If more people here used soulseek no one would have to worry about "uploading" anything.

Much, much easier.

I'm new on this board and just found some interesting, the 5cd set of the avatar score. Couldn't believe it to see, that there is really such a big collection.

Btw: What this soulseek? Do you think he shares this over that?
In honor to scoreman who has this collection. I understand that all users here just want to have this. But you saw what happened after this by saying 'upload this' or 'When can we have this?'.

I just say, good thinks can take time.

Sorry for possible bad english.

Thanks a lot!
