Since these forums are vastly lacking in many different forums, may I suggest a "Welcome Forum" and maybe a new ideas forum?

If a noob or "onion kid" as these forums call them is generally well received by senior shriners, they will let them know in the OP.

Those are just some basic forums...

welcome posts go in gd. people don't post that many as is and a lot of them dont stick around. last time we had one it just encouraged more people to post welcome threads before promptly disappearing off the face of das forums.

we dont really get many new ideas at all. maybe it would encourage it. but people can already do that here as feedback i think

Why not at least put a "Introduce Yourself THREAD", not even a forum. This way it won't flood like almighty tsunamis.

Do you honestly think a community as old as this one has not tried that at some point? And following that same line of reasoning, don't you think it would still exist if it worked well?

Prak. You seem to make the mistake of assuming most people follow logic and common sense. You expect too much.

When did welcome threads ever flood this forum? I don't understand why we need a welcome forum or thread, people can just make their own.

there are none there right now. we rarely get five at a bad time, when on earth have you seen ten? gd is quiet as heck as it is, no need to divide up traffic even if the few welcome threads we get are "annoying".

It actually used to be for a while that we DID get floods of them. The solution that was eventually decided upon was that if one was on the main page already, you were supposed to post your "hi I'm new" post in that thread, and then if it fell off someone could make a new one. But that was a temporary solution because the problem was temporary; I honestly don't know what changed, but for whatever reason we now get very few of those threads.

Anyway in general, what we try to do is not have any more forums or threads or stickies than we need to. The more of those you have, the more diluted things get, and it just makes stuff slower, less convenient, etc. This is based on a lot of experience over the years.

Suggestions are always welcome though so don't think I'm trying to shut that down. They are part of the purpose of this particular forum. We basically do have a new ideas forum, it's just that we also use it for question asking.

Excuse people for wanting to say "hi", sheesh.

Actually I'm with master, if you don't want to read them then don't. That would be the point of an intro thread or forum.

It's annoying because it's more pointless threads to sift through when you're looking for something with some actual discussion to post in. It's fine when there's one or two but when it's five or six at a time they start pushing more meaningful threads away.

It's a non issue though really since we don't have a problem with them.

So how about we try? it could never hurt to try, i think it's a good idea. Just make one general thread and let everyone on the site introduce themselves, even if it's something funny or just nonsense how about just listing a few fun facts? it'll make the new people who stay feel welcome, because how else will we get to know one another.
Considering the fact that even i, only joined so i can go to GH, i kinda like this forum and so i'm posting, if this place had a more welcoming feel, instead of the flame after flame after the open roast threads i've seen then maybe it'll make the shrine just a little bit better :) i dunno, but online is about making friends and being anyone that you want, so how about we make this place a bit more fun, and a welcome thread... like an official one wouldn't hurt.
