on the prelude though, try using a Synth pad for an instrument instead of strings to keep it more in line with the original, unless you purposely want the strings

Since you are open to opinions/suggestions, I would like to say that all of your remixes, so far, are fantastic. Now, I am by no means a music expert/musician, nor do I know all instruments well, but here it is.

The battle theme, in my opinion, definately needs more bass throughout the track as you had stated. Also, one minor concern, on the same battle track, is the chime or ring starting on 0:55 of the song. It's slightly loud and/or high pitched for my tastes. Maybe tone down the chime here, or try using a another instrument in this small section? Don't know how to explain it, but you seem to know what you are doing :)

The other tracks to me, are great. Keep up the good work.

But you're merely taking MIDI files and replacing the instrument tracks with soundfonts, or some other similar sample file. The only thing that is impressive is that you have some relatively high-quality samples; Are they free or did you purchase samples? I'm curious which ones you are using, since they are pretty good.

And I know this because I, too, enjoy taking my favorite MIDI soundtracks and trying to create high-quality MP3s with them.

And to comment on the OCRemix community idea, they would laugh at this. OCRemix is a community dedicated to the re-visioning and remixing of game music; this is neither. I'm not trying to be ungrateful, and I appreciate Cindy's work for what it is, but I think people are being misled to believe that these are creative interpretations of the original score. Really, this is just the MIDI soundtrack with higher-quality samples.

Also, Riddell, you must be joking me. The amount of creativity, time, effort, and pure talent that was put into VotL is in an entirely different league. How can you even compare these two? The amount of time that went into just ONE song on that album is likely more than this entirely project will take, and I'm not even joking about that. That is not even compared to the work I do, I can show you some remixes I made from scrap. Same goes for the other ones I layed out here, I have to actually pinpoint the notes and place them with my instruments. Now, Here is this thing. Whether you like the album or not is none of my concern. As long as others are happy about it, That's fine with me. So sorry if remaking music offends you.

i do see your point and i do agree with a lot of things, but i don't agree with VOTLS. while it was a very technical and creative album as far as musical style goes. They lost the feel of the original music in the process like most of the crap on that site. while some of the songs were good , a lot where just plain bad, their standards focus too much on just a technical standpoint, of adding a few riffs , or changing around the notes of the original song or adding some poorly done synth or dance to it.

Number one: It is a remix, there are changes and tweaks, it might not be a huge overhaul like some are, but why should it need to be? Most remixes aren't as good as the original anyway, that includes most of VotL.

Number 2: What you did was nowhere near the quality or the complexity of Cindy's stuff, so the comparison kind of breaks down there, you could tell yours was made from a midi instantly, you can't with Cindy's.

Number 3: What you said to Riddell? It's stupid, he said it might dethrone VotL as his favourite, that's his opinion, it has nothing to do with time, effort or complexity, it's just that this to him (and me) sounds better than VotL.

First off, I also write tons of music from scratch. I never said you didn't; I simply said that the music present in this thread is nothing more than the MIDI versions with MP3 samples.

My gripe is that they are being referred to as "remixes", when in fact, they are just sequences of the actual music. No musical elements are being changed; there are no added or subtracted portions. These are the exact songs that appear in the games, with only the instrumentation being changed. While changing the instruments may seem to change the music, I assure you that all of the musical elements are identical to the actual songs from the games.

Aside from instrument choices, there is nothing creative being added or changed within this piece.

And mintfresh, how can you say my stuff is nowhere near the complexity? I took the exact song, just as Cindy had did. Obviously, Cindy is using slightly better samples, and I already mentioned that I didn't bother to equalize the song very well. Mine are all free samples, after all. But musically, we used the exact same source soundtrack. If she remakes Shinra Company, it'll be the exact same music, with different samples. I don't quite understand how you can't tell hers are from MIDI. As soon as the first song started, I knew she was using the MIDI versions as the basis of her 'remixes'.

Not to mention that, to actually remix the entire soundtrack from scratch, it would take several months to complete even if you worked quickly, not the few weeks that Cindy has claimed she can have it done in. I'm not saying she's not using MIDIs, I'm saying that to my untrained ear it's less obvious, whereas your mix I could tell instantly, almost as if it were playing in the background to your piece. Maybe 'complexity' wasn't the right word, but to me her work sound not only better quality (the samples I guess in part at least) but the background instruments sound like they have more of a part to play, more balanced, whereas yours didn't, and sounded a bit flat.

Furthermore, you keep saying about her work not being remixes. She never claimed they were, she has referred to them as remakes, as tracks, as recomposings (all accurate, as in she recomposed the music using different instruments, not recomposed as in rewrote). The only time she used remix was in terms of having 'remixed' her version of the battle track to have more bass, an accurate use of the word. In other words, nowhere does she claim to have remixed the original pieces, so you seem to have pulled that particular gripe out of your arse I'm afraid.

As for Riddell's comparison of this and VotL, it IS a fair comparison, they're both projects designed to give the whole/majority of the FF OST an overhaul, to make it more interesting by giving it a new twist. VotL may go about this a different way, it may be more technically impressive, take more time to do and so forth, but it's still comparable to this in terms of ambition and outcome, if not in scope and method. In the end you just latched on that as a way to belittle this work in comparison to VotL, fair enough if Cindy had made the comparison, but she didn't.

To me it's different enough in sound to call it a remix anyway, even if it isn't musically speaking it isn't. I think this may just be a case of if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

About VOTL; I definately agree there are some technically creative pieces but I feel a lot of the tracks are completly disjointed from the original score, watering down the experience associated with the tracks. Regardless of the methods used to create these tracks, the quality of the work is still good, just because she may use MIDI's for some, doesnt mean the end product will be bad. Also, Cindy is obviosly a big fan of the game and i feel manages to create the EMOTION of FFVII much better than the majority of VOTL.

Cindy never once stated she wanted technical recognition or to be taken as the best FFVII composer so if that is your major gripe, you have no buisness posting.

Compared to Cindy's music, It is prodominately mp3 quality with a hint of MIDI, yours is almost completely MIDI. Dont not criticise other people if you cant do better yourself.

To Cindy: I definately like the newer battle theme, more powerful. More only improvement I could suggest would be on Ahead on my Way to make it a tad more legatto instead of strict stacatto. Anyway, Keep up the great work.

I'm alternates of battle themes from FFVII from my album. Well if I decide to that is. I did two that were in my vision, I just redid the first one with lack of bass and added a choir, now. Cool, just a little bit more polishing, I guess. I like the bass for "Fight Further" but the violin was a little harsh at parts. Other than that, it is great! The song for Wutai is the best I have heard. Hmmm, maybe Enemy Assault from FFX or Force Your Way from FF8 as a bonus track? I am kind of tired of hearing the same song getting rehash and remixed. One Winged Angel, for example. I am still waiting for that Final Fantasy Tactics Arrange Album, maybe it will be done someday?

I was just saying in general. Everyone says it is epic album (which it is) but it get no treatment. No love, it just sits there. Ooh, good choice with "Past the Plain". You can actually hear the cymbals in your version, which is a plus. The bass volume could be notch up a little bit, other than good job.

The first 6 seconds could be touch up a bit. The fanfare does not need to be close to 2:00 minutes because of it repetitive nature. Maybe about 50 seconds at max? I need hit the sack myself. No offense, but this is mediocre, at best. If you were writing these from scratch AND remixing them, it would be impressive. But you're merely taking MIDI files and replacing the instrument tracks with soundfonts, or some other similar sample file. The only thing that is impressive is that you have some relatively high-quality samples; Are they free or did you purchase samples? I'm curious which ones you are using, since they are pretty good.

And I know this because I, too, enjoy taking my favorite MIDI soundtracks and trying to create high-quality MP3s with them.

And to comment on the OCRemix community idea, they would laugh at this. OCRemix is a community dedicated to the re-visioning and remixing of game music; this is neither. I'm not trying to be ungrateful, and I appreciate Cindy's work for what it is, but I think people are being misled to believe that these are creative interpretations of the original score. Really, this is just the MIDI soundtrack with higher-quality samples.

Also, Riddell, you must be joking me. The amount of creativity, time, effort, and pure talent that was put into VotL is in an entirely different league. How can you even compare these two? The amount of time that went into just ONE song on that album is likely more than this entirely project will take, and I'm not even joking about that. Not to mention, that album was a true Remix album. This is nothing of the sort.

To further drive the point home, I decided to leave a bit of hard proof. Here's a link to an MP3 of Shinra Company:

I used the exact same technique; I took the MIDI and simply replaced the instrument tracks with my own soundfonts, added a reverb effect to the piano, and tooled with the volume a bit. Note that doing this only takes about 15-20 minutes, whereas an actual remix or arrangement will generally take several hours, if not longer. This particular one only took a few minutes, and while the volume levels aren't exactly the way I'd want them, this was only to show you that it's easily done. Had I invested another 30 minutes, I could've made this sound quite awesome.

I'd also highly recommend that the "Complete Remix" part on the cover be changed to something more appropriate. Perhaps something like, "The wonderful music of Nobuo Uematsu in beautiful MP3 by Cindy" or something.

Now, Cindy, please do not take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm not trying to defame you, I'm just trying to shed light on what this album is, and what it isn't. I think it's really cool what you've done here, but I think trying to hype this up as an epic remix album is flat out wrong.

It's not the same work, Overclocked is a very good arranged album, but must hardcore. Here Cindy has keep the original theme of every track with a little
arrangement. It's different, but the two version is very good. But only i think, everyone can prefer a version of FF7 =) .

Wow, The forums died unexpectedly but now I can post here again! and I know my album is completed and I should of uploaded it awhlie ago but bleh, It's huge! It's around 573 megs plus the bonus tracks! So, I'll have to see what I can do about this, either I can give it to y'all personally (Via PM) or Messenger! It's all up to you and To you people who love to steal and change names to tracks, dont even think about it, I put file protection and all that, So if you think your going to change my track names and claim it as for your own, you have another thing comin. Since all the music I remixed is in a remix file where all the notes and instruments are placed. So DONT even try it, anyway! Back on the good foot, here are the covers!

I did upload it once and only a hand picked few got it, just a "few" but not all. I had to take it down from the place I previously uploaded, why? when I listened throughout the whole album I noticed there was some minor errors with my songs so I had to edit them a bit, also one other thing. I'm having problems going on in my life back and forth so I'm trying the best I can to please most of you. As for your PM's not going through, you cant PM unless you have 5 posts on this forum, kayn. I'm looking to reupload it to a place one day. but if you would like to do it directly, messenger would only be the good place to send it to you, either track by track or I might have to rar it again. Well, the rearrangements of the tracks do belong to her, I don't think is silly to ask someone to not distribute your work, if you don't want that. The original work is from Uematsu, these fan-made arrangements are property of CinFoxSnake. You're right when you say she can't do very much about people that spread the work, but I think it all comes down to respect for other's work: she, the author of this complete album (free, by the way), is telling you "Don't give it away without my permission". If someone really wants to share it with some friends, he/she can always ask for permission, I think there's no harm in such behavior.

It's rare to see ambitious projects like this, especially ones that are worked on with as much concentration as this, if you consider the time between inception and completion. If we want to see more like this, then it's only fair to respect the wishes of those who's work it is. Bacause it is their work, of course the original music was Uematsu's, nobody is disputing that fact, but that doesn't mean Cindy hasn't put in a lot of work on this project too.

Well, that's my view, and I certainly look forward to more from her.

Look, she gave credit where it's due. She's not claiming that she composed it. It would be the same as someone making a Star Wars fan film and then just giving it to a certain few who appreciate it. You don't have to go to George Lucas and get some license or something. The same applies here.
