Which one are you most excited about? For me it's Versus XIII at the moment, the character looks really cool.

You forgot Agito...

Harkus

That's a mobile game and last time I checked they haven't even started it yet they've just patented the logo.

Prak

The character "looks cool" and that's enough to get you excited for it? You certainly are easy to please. I guess actual relevant information isn't needed, eh?

Sheesh.

Harkus

No my excitement comes from the trailer, screenshots, what part of the story I know as well as the character.

Prak

Harkus

I know but I've got basically the same amount of info on both games and I'm leaning toward Versus XIII atm, that could change when more of XIII comes to the public.

Will it even be released outside of Japan if it's only on mobile?

Maybe, since they all tie in together in some way.

Cool this, cool that... Cool doesn't make a good game. It's people that think it does that are responsible for all the garbage getting shoveled onto the market these days.

There are almost no infos on Versus XIII available. And there is plenty of infos for XIII.

You're obviously only basing your opinion on the look of things.

Versus XIII LOOKS like crap compared to XIII. And when you consider that Nomura stated that he wanted the game to look cool more than anything, I think it says a lot about how he approaches a game's design.

His goal for his projects is more about the looks than the practicality of its gameplay and the coherence of its plot.

While XIII has character designs by Nomura, which won't be as great as in XII or even better, IX, the whole project will be done with a much better approach than Versus. In the sense that their goal is to further improve the JRPG formula by making the battle systems more seemless to the exploration and less turn-based than they've been during their 20 years of stagnation.

Versus XIII will be like a "taking itself seriously" Kingdom Heart game with Final Fantasy attached to it's title. Nomura himself said so, although he did use more subtle words.

I know cool doesn't make a good game. I'm just saying he looks cool fighting but also I said i'm excited because of the screenshots I've seen, the trailers I've watched and the story that I know about. If I thought that 'cool' made a game my favourite wouldn't be IX which hardly features anything 'cool'. For making a judgement about me so quickly you have now become a mindless maggot to me, now you can go and fuck yourself for being a prick.

You base everything about FFXIII and Versus XIII by their looks. No way you'll have any semblance of credibility here.

Harkus
04-02-2008, 12:35 PM
I'm not basing it on their looks, I've already said twice now that what I know of the story is a factor. The most important thing for me in a FF game is a good mix of story and gameplay. I meant how he fights looks cool not him.

It's about the last heir of a dynasty who rules over the last city that controls crystals. Due to unforeseen circumstances he has to defend the crystal from marauders that want to steal the crystal for their own.

I actually made a topic saying that I didn't like XII based purely on the fact the story was non-existent. Story is very important to me.

He is the last heir to a dynasty, ruling the only remaining city in the world which controls crystals. He protects his home from marauders that plan to conquer the city and take the crystals as their own.

No it's not hypocrisy. There are people who read something and learn, memorise the informations. Like me and many others here.

And there are those like you who need to go on the net everytime they need to state a fact or a piece of knowledge. That's telling a lot about he state of your brain.

In the end, nobody really care if you prefer Versus XIII over XIII. The reasons you stated for prefering one over the other is what triggered this mockery that you've become.

Do you even read what I type?

There is nothing wrong with learning from the net. What you showed us isn't abour learning. It's about relying on it to pretend you know anything. You quoted wikipedia's article almost word for word. Which only showed us that you didn't know the artual story, you didn't know the info, and had to rely on an external source in order to come up with anything relevant.

Somebody who learns from what he read doesn't need to quote a passage from the book or the website. He word it from what he memorise using his own wording.

Hope that's more clear now.

Yeah, you would say that after all the trouble you went through.

If you think something is better than something else, you should at the very least provide some valid arguments as to why one of the 2 stands out more than the other.
Saying "I think this game will be better because I saw a cool CG sequence" won't cut it. If you prefer a game over an other, and start a thread to talk about it, the least you could do is give us reasons to care. Here, all you provided is your fascination for the cool looking.

And stuff that look cool don't necessarily end up being good (i.e. Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, which is of course signed Tetsuya Nomura).

Harkus

It's only at one or two specific times during the story that there's a genuine problem with XII's pacing. Such as in between Mosphoran Highwaste and the Phon Coast, where there's practically zero dialogue, or the massive trek through the Sandsea without any story scenes.

For the rest of the game it really depends on how many hunts and sidequests you do. If you do a lot, it can break up the story, but if you just play the game (and maybe do one or two sidequests), I find it flows reasonably well.

Yeah, Agito is mobile. And it looks like it's going to be another one of those fight-with-cards games like KH:CoM or Baten Kaitos. Even if I had a system that could play Agito, I would not be looking forward to it. xP

I'm neither inclined one way or the other.

XIII for me is a mixed bag. I see some positives but also a few negatives.

Positively, it seems like there's a reasonable amount of background plot, even for such early stages, and when a fantasy world has a reasonable amount of history that usually signifies a rich world. Furthermore, I personally love futuristic RPGs because even though they're fantasy, and dubbed "Final Fantasy" in this situation, they're also science-fiction due to the time setting.

As for negatives, well it may sound unforgiving but the name of the main character in XIII kind of turns me off a little bit. They invest time to build what sounds like a relatively rich history to the world with different races and whatnot but at the same time can't think of a name more...well, namely, than "Lightning". Heck, "Storm" would've been better or "Electron" or something, but Lightning? Geez - that's a very lazy name I feel.

Also, what worries me slightly is that the director for XIII is the same guy who did X-2...and that's pretty clear by the over-abundant use of elaborate flips, somersaults and generally over-the-top manoeuvres found in the XIII trailer when she fights some guards (it's even worse in the cutscene than the battle demo) - it reminded me of that ridiculous cut-scene at the beginning of X-2 when Yuna does some stupid flip and fires her pistols at Ormi and Logos. I'll just have to see how it turns out though.

As for Versus XIII, I've pretty much seen nothing about it except that one teaser trailer...so I'm not inclined either way. Sure it looked cool but then again so do 99% of next-gen games.

Versus XIII will be like a "taking itself seriously" Kingdom Heart game with Final Fantasy attached to it's title. Nomura himself said so, although he did use more subtle words.

Erm, incidentally, this doesn't sound all that bad to me to be honest?

As for FFXIII's trailer music - well, it may redeem itself later on but let's hope it's director hasn't had too much involvement in its score judging by the J-Pop crap from FFX-2. And incidentally, yeah, happy is pretty boring. Why would you want to play a game of FFXIII's magnitude if it was happy? Let's go play on the beach and make sand castles, yay! Look at any FF game and you'll see the stories are far from happy because they pretty much always revolve around war in some form.

And as such the music has to converge with the events of the game. J-Pop while people are being massacred simply doesn't fit, as an example. Well, unless you're trying for a black comedy.

I really hope the game will be different from X-2, regarding atmosphere (in my opinion, it cannot be considered a FF game... Maybe I'm too harsh, but after playing all the FF except III, XI and X , this is my opinion), if it's from the same director. My feeling is that the atmosphere will be really similar to the VIII one. The game was made by square-enix. The game was a sequel to another Final Fantasy. Therefore it is a Final Fantasy game. If you can't understand that simple logic, the maybe this place isn't for you, because people are going to point that out every time, meaning your argument is flawed.

But that's the NATURE of an opinionated argument - it IS flawed. If it wasn't flawed there'd be no room for different opinion because it would be 100% based on fact...and that, as should be obvious, is called a "fact" not an "opinion".

The only part of the attack on his post I would agree with is "ignorant" simply because it's being intentionally ignorant to not count a game in a series that it was placed within simply because it's not good.

However, he didn't say it was written in the ten commandments that FFX-2 WASN'T a Final Fantasy nor a game holding the "Final Fantasy" name, he simply said he personally didn't count it amongst the series' number. Whether that be:

To preserve good memories from the rest of the series,
Because it was a "sequel" to an FF game,
Because because many of the staff involved in the project weren't the same as those in the first game ,
Or because he felt the game was so far removed from its predecessors (which I could agree with to be honest),

It doesn't matter. All that matters in his post is how he feels, this is his opinion - end of. It's up to personal individuals as to whether they acknowledge that opinion or not - his opinion doesn't "fail" (which it can't anyway, since it's an opinion and no opinion "fails" or "succeeds" because it's relative) nor is it irrelevant in a global context because that's up to individuals to decide.

It's only irrelevant to those who personally choose to ignore it. The problem there though is that irony kicks in because such people who ignore an opinion they don't like are in fact ignorant themselves.

As for my opinion - I second the hope that XIII isn't like X-2...it's my main fear at the moment but it is at least only a fear since we don't know nearly enough about it yet.

There's a difference between opinions and arguments that defend opinions. What everyone is attacking the guy over is his argument over his opinion. It's, as Prak stated, irrelevent and ignorant. You have to come up with something a little more concrete than "the atmosphere" to claim FFX-2 to not be considered a FF game.

Yes, correct, I don't care whether it's a code name, real name or a pet name she uses with her little munchkin sweetheart. It doesn't matter what kind of name it is - it doesn't need to be her "real" name to be lazy.

The REASON it's lazy, in my eyes, is because it lacks originality - it's one of the most overused words or "elements" in RPGs. It's the same as calling her Fire, Wind, Water etc. whether that be her code name or what - it's boring and unoriginal, thus lazy. It's a name that a 5 year old could've come up with and it's not even like effort was put in to give her a less used derivative of the word as her "alias".

There's nothing lazy in me not caring what KIND of name it is...I think maybe you need to look up "lazy" in the dictionary. If you'd called it nit-picking I might have actually given half a yard of acknowledgment but using "lazy" to describe my opinion is so completely out of place it's like a rhino in a china shop.

While you may not know the reason behind this code-name of hers, calling the developers lazy because they gave a character a name that you don't like is a step behind my attitude towards your ignorant comments. This same attitude you tried to condemn.

No it isn't, it's a step BACK for your attitude. I have NO doubt that there is indeed a REASON for the code name - I do not doubt that at all. However, regardless of whether there is a reason for it they could've tried to think of a less over-used term or name - see derivative above.
You tried to play sementics in your last few comments, trying to defend what an opinion is with pathetic failure.
That's your opinion - SEE WHAT I DID THERE! Besides, I don't need to "defend" my opinion whatsoever BECAUSE it's an opinion, and much less to the likes of arrogance personified.

The fact is: Lightning is her code-name. For all you know, her real name yet still unknown, might end-up being the best a lead female character has ever had.

Couldn't care less because the two things are separate issues. If she has an awesome real name, that's great, but it still doesn't remove a hugely lacklustre code name. It may MAKE UP for it but it doesn't remove it.

Fact: You have no idea about what you dislike. You are thus forming a prejudice, and as such, I cannot do anything but laugh at you with disdain

I'm pretty sure I just explained how I DO, in fact, have an idea what I dislike.

Once again I think the dictionary may be your friend of the moment. Go look up "fact" then come back to me, perhaps your "laughing with disdain" is a bit premature considering the fact that you've just attempted to tell me (labelling it as "fact" aswell) what I do or do not have "ideas" about when in fact you are blissfully ignorant of that fact.

And of course you are, because last time I checked you weren't a mindreader. I won't, by default, state every single angle of reasoning as to why I may like or dislike something because it is simply not necessary to do so when discussing something in a civil atmosphere. Usually a person simply takes that as a person's opinion, perhaps takes it further with a discussion but does not attack it immediately - that's "civil" behaviour which, of course, you appear to distinctly lack.

__________________________________________________ ________

noskillbassist: I don't lose or win because I don't consider a chat on a messageboard important enough to "lose" at it, lol, but on the topic of opinions and opinion defences - yes, I agree with you there but in this case his defence of his opinion wasn't being textually attacked but rather his ACTUAL opinion:

"We don't attack everyone's opinions, just the ones that are stupid"

"Fail. Your opinion is irrelevant, as well as ignorant."

These posts don't say that the defence or argument based upon the opinion is being attacked but rather the opinion itself.

As for the actual defence of his opinion, atmosphere being a "weak" reason for a game being poor I have to say I disagree with. The simple reason is one of the most important elements of cinematic video games is, arguably, atmosphere.

If the atmosphere is not fitting then the game will probably be dragged down even if it had a great story with memorable characters. This is exampled by the music in FFX-2 and the general tone of the game considering it has happened only 2 years after the epic events of FFX. Furthermore, outside the actual world of FFX itself if you consider this to be a direct sequel to a game then most will expect more similarities than aesthetic ones. Too many things are changed in FFX-2 compared to its predecessor which leads many (many people I know personally aswell) to dislike it based on its "atmosphere".

Atmosphere radiates from every part of the game - the music, the characters, the visuals, the story etc. all of these things contribute to the overall "atmosphere" so if something that is involved and produced through every strand of the game isn't a good enough reason for liking or disliking it then I, quite frankly, don't know what is.

As a sequel, while it is a stand-alone game, it is also a part of a saga. Generally, sequels that deviate from that saga too much are generally quite poor because as a sequel they have to adhere to the precepts from the original in order to maintain a feeling of "continuity". This is the biggest reason FFX-2 fails as a game, in my opinion - it's a sequel but is made as though it were another individual FF story in the series.

Anyway, bored. This is a discussion about Final Fantasy GAMES, as in, VIDEOGAMES that were play for FUN and are not life or death. Ergo, I can't really be bothered to discuss it further because it's simply not important enough.

This attitude is born of people not knowing about history or societal behavior. It is very common for a society to go on a major high after overcoming a period of hardship. For example, look at late 1940s and early 1950s America. Despite the fact that it was a tumultuous period politically, the nation at large displayed a far more positive attitude than normal.

FFx-2 is actually a fairly accurate representation of a society's reaction to such events, which is actually a major credit to the game, and speaks very badly of the players who are too ignorant to realize it.

But the code name the female lead was given at the early stages of the game and could be discarded or changed later is important enough to comment on it and go as far as to call the ones that thought of it lazy? If they put much effort and make a great game will the code name matter then? You know what the problem is? That FFXIII and Versus are taking too long and people become impatient.

Yeah, me too. I kinda left the sentence half (1/5 actually). What I really had in mind saying was that FFXIII and Versus are taking too long and people become impatient and that clouds their judgment (that some didn't have in the first place) and start commenting on the most irrelevant and meaningless things or making the most out-of-this-world theories and some totally clueless even say things like "Oh, is that Cloud on the bike?" No, it's not fucking Cloud on the bike. Sorry, I got carried away. Just a little. Anyway, that's why I said it's taking too long. Of course when it arrives the other things will start. "I spit on you Square-Enix", "FFXIII is not a FF game", "It's not as good as the one I think is the best", "The female protagonist has a tiny little stain on her mini skirt that is not explained in the story - therefore the game has plot holes", blah, blah, that kinda staff.

Regardless of how long it's taking, stupid speculation would happen even if the game was released by Christmas. It's what people do who oggle over shiny trailers.

And of course there's going to be criticism. It'd be kinda lame if everyone accepted whatever was given to them without a second thought.

I'll go back on what I said for one post mostly to reply to Prak. Simply put, I want to put my hand up and agree with Prak's post here on the basis of logic.

I must say I don't like the feel of it in a VIDEOGAME, per se, but in terms of the logic factor and how it relates to real-life society you're right.

Still, regardless of how logical it is with relation to real-life it made the game feel, for me at least, a little bit trivial. For example, it's like making two games:

The first in the thick of WW2,
The sequel in the societal high afterwards with people having parties and dancing (well, after the rationing stopped),

In terms of its historical accuracy it would be great but in terms of an entertaining gaming experience the sequel would feel a little bland especially when juxtaposed against its original. The frivolity of the FFX-2 just felt like a let down...like something more suited to a Disney game or watching the Teletubbies, but I concede its "realism" within the world of FFX.

With regards the name "Lightning" and why I dislike it I'll just examplify a name from an FF game which is similar in its essence but ISN'T lazy in my opinion: Squall. The reason why is because most people don't even know squall is a word and of those who do know, many don't even know what it means. However, if you break it down to bare basics it basically means "Wind", rather alike "Lightning" no? However, UNLIKE Lightning it can be passed off as a pure name because of its deviation from the basic word. It's virtually unique. They didn't call him "Wind", they deviated. So essentially, in my opinion the "lazy" version of naming the protagonist of FFVIII would be "Wind", just like "Lightning" in this.

To be fair I probably do hold a small amount of prejudice against FFXIII simply due to the director on-board and the fact the last two FF games I've played (FFX-2 and FFXII) I disliked. However, it won't stop me buying the game so in that regard at least I'm not allowing any prejudice to affect my judgment on whether or not I will play the game. At the moment, though, I'm just slightly critical because I'm half-anticipating something that won't live up to expectations.

At the moment, though, I'm just slightly critical because I'm half-anticipating something that won't live up to expectations.

Here's an example. FFX-2 scenario was written by Kazushige Nojima and Daisuke Watanabe. You didn't like it? That's OK. I wasn't really captivated by it either (comparing to 10 that is). But Kazushige Nojima also wrote the scenario for FFX which was undeniably great. In case you didn't like FFX's plot then I'll mention that he also wrote the scenario for FFVIII, FFVII and the Kingdom Hearts games. And then he went and wrote the scenario for Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core which like FFX-2 weren't that good. My first point is that whatever quality the sequels have (in any department) the people that work on FF really are more careful with the roman numbered ones. An I'll dare to say that regardless of flaws all the roman numbered FF are above average (yeah, I know it's not a universally accepted truth). My second point is that because of my first point it doesn't really matter if Motomu Toriyama was the director of FFX-2. FFXIII belongs to the roman numbered ones and will not be released just for commercial reasons (they have the sequels for that). Plus it's not just one person responsible for the failure or success of one game. So don't bother yourself with such things. We can only wait and see how this one will turn out.

Aqueous
07-08-2008, 10:33 AM
Hm, you raise a good point about the sequels involved in the FF series...they really are all tripe compared! Have to admit it's not a pattern that I previously saw. With the exception of maybe Crisis Core (though half of the game was essentially a reproduction of FFVII anyway) they really are just $ in the bank.

I'm still a little skeptical, don't think that will be entirely engineered out of my system until the game's release, but it's cleared a bit because of your post I must admit. The only thing that still drags on for me a bit is the fact that even though the director is only one person in a crew of 100s that create a videogame he/she is a pivotal part of the team and therefore alot of their touch goes into the game.

However, just like you said, we can only wait and see. I'll do aswell. Once the trailer got past the silly "flipz 'n' trix" section it actually looked quite intriguing. Here's hoping there's more of that to come.

Afterwards, you go around and around trying to justify yourself, in an attempt to save the face from the failure I pointed out.

Dictionary might be a good tool, I give you that (and it is especially true for a non native english speaker like myself), even if in that case it cannot be applied since I already used the proper wording. But in your case, eloquence is certainly not one of your traits. Having to re-phrase every sentences that you originaly posted to give them new meanings certainly points in that direction.

Aqueous

You used proper wording with incorrect context.

As for rephrasing every sentence I originally posted, well, that seems to be a necessity when conversing with you as the vast majority of your posts seem to argue besides and around the point but barely against it.

Other than that I can't honestly be bothered to grace your post with a proper response as the whole frayed threads of your arguments are beginning to bore me.

Im anticipating XIII more cuz Lighting is on it i just love her character deign and her outfit with the red scarf and the sheath of the sword hanging from her waist looks cool plus her powers are awesome with the lighting running though her body to the gravity defying moves
also her story is making me wanting this game even more were it is said that she's been chosen by the Crystals and that she could save or destroy the world.

Versus looks great too is a darker more realistic atmosphere, the protagonist and the antagonist situation is intriguing indeed, their powers and outfits looks cool too (i just happen to like Lighting more) him using all of those swords plus the teleporting and she with the magical seals
facing each other each time they met

is all bullshit thou anticipating one over the other when i know damn well that Im getting both of them no matter what.

You guys blow my mind flaming a guy cuz he thinks versus looks tighter...

Guess what.. IT DOES LOOK BETTER. And I will give you my reasons.

When I think hmm, would I rather see another generic final fantasy about some powerful god like beings granting powers to a special group of people who are destined to save the world from some great evil but even so they are looked down upon by the world (cocoon)? OR would I rather see final fantasy make a darker story again, with the coolest looking hero since Cloud (Flame me cuz I think he looks cool, dont care), and also a fighting style that looks alot cooler than anything in Xiii.

Not only that but, Nomura stated that Noctus's group or kingdom or something is based on the JAPANESE MAFIA, THE YAKUZA. now that is friggin sweet!

I dunno if any of you guys seen any yakuza movies, but they are awesome!!

So we have the coolest hero since cloud, with pretty much the coolest fighting style ever, his group is based on the Yakuza, and the story will be darker than usual and all the environments are darker and more bleak than usual. AND we get action gameplay instead of more standard RPG type gameplay.

I always wondered how awesome a game would be if they could impliment dissidia style action fighting into a game with a story as awesome as RPG's as FFVII, xenogears, etc...

Sounds 100x better to me...

Great rebuttal bro, you really disproved my point :(

Everyone who likes XIII just comes in this thread and acts like a bunch of 5 year old butt buddies ganging up on people, but really you don't even have ANY valid opinions on why XIII would be better...

Not only is everything I said true and makes Versus 10x better but Versus is also a PS3 exclusive still which means that they arent going to tone versus down for the 360.

So you have fun with a lower quality game playing as some loser chick in a generic final fantasy storyline, Ill be lovin Versus :)

xENOgEAR666, anyone stating they categorically prefer Versus over XIII is nothing but dumb.

Not because of the possibility that FF XIII might be better than Versus, in the end.

But because there is actually nothing about Versus that could point in the direction that it will be any better than XIII. Nothing about the actual gameplay has been shown so far other than a "behind closed doors" tech demo at the last TGS. And we know so little about the story that even mentioning it as an argument against XIII is nothing but embarrassing. People like you fail to realize they're nothing but fanboys, blinded by the hype train that Nomura has put into motion.

The truth is, you know next to nothing about Versus and already jump to the conclusion that it will be better than XIII. Based on nothing but the apparent coolness of what is still an empty character. You're in fact nothing more than drooling over the superficial coating of what little was shown of the game.

Not only what you say is taken from no where other than your filthy ass, but you're making a fool out of yourself without even realizing it.

Incorrect. There is plenty known about versus at this point that tells me that I already KNOW (yes, that's a fact) I am going to like it better than XIII.

1. I like video games with characters I can relate to. I can already tell I can relate to Noctus better. The game looks darker and more bleak in general, and so does his character. Also, I usually relate to male characters better than female lead characters and therefore enjoy games more with males as the lead. This is the style of game I like. Saying style and look has no effect on your opinion of a game is moronic, but at the same time its not terribly important, its just one of the many things that sway my opinion toward versus.

2. XIII seems like the same story as any other final fantasy that has come out. I can already tell what the game is going to be like mostly and it just makes me wish they would have gone a different direction with the main new final fantasy coming out. Then, I see a trailer for versus, and think, Now this is what they should have done to begin with! Even though there is little information, the little information that I do know already tells me I will like versus more.
a. More action oriented gameplay (This HAS been stated) - Right up my alley. I think they should make a Final fantasy with an epic ass story as well as epic dissidia style fighting in it! Another fact that moves versus above XIII for me.
b. Notcis's group is based on the Yakuza (Also has been stated, and I have a collection of probably 150 Yakuza movies). I think the Yakuza are very interesting, so basing his group on them tells me that I am going to enjoy these group dynamics a whole lot more than the generic love and save the world story dynamics that are going to occupy XIII's group. We can also already see the relationship between Notcis and the girl is not going to be an average love story like in the other FF's. They duke it out!
c. Darker and bleaker story. You can tell just by looking at it that the game is darker in general. Once again, my kind of thing.

3. THE MUSIC. The music in the versus trailer completely blows anything ive heard on any XIII video out of proportion! That latin opera singing while noctis is owning everyone is awesome. Makes it super epic. This type of epic music gives me the chills just listening to it. Very soulful. If the rest of the music on this game is as good as this, well damn, I don't know what to say...

4. PS3 exclusive still - Graphics and extra features will not be downgraded to fit on the 360.

This is all the reasons I need to tell me that I will love versus more than XIII. Its not even a question really.

I'm sure ill play XIII and enjoy it, but if you read all that and try to tell me I don't have sufficent reason to know Illl like versus better, well, your just retarded.

I know what I like, especially what kind of games I like, and Versus appeals to me 1000000x more than XIII.

Wow, you are just rediculous. Why would I reread your last post when I just completely de-railed it and gave like 10 reasons why Versus appeals more to me than XIII which CANNOT BE DISPUTED. I ALREADY KNOW ALL I NEED TO KNOW, TO KNOW VERSUS APPEALS TO ME MORE THAN XIII.

How about you go re-read my post, and actually respond to my points instead of making little snobby childish comments completely unrelated to what we are talking about... How does that prove your right? Just because you have a bunch of butt buddys that jump in on your side and cheer you on does NOT mean that childish insults , with no counter arguments, make you win? OHH I see your logic makes perfect sense. I guess that means I have to go out and pick up the Barby's Playhouse video game and play it through to be able to tell if I am going to like it as much as starcraft 2 when it comes out huh?

You are damn stupid!!!

Once again, I know what kind of games I like, I don't have to play all video games before I can tell if I will like one better than the other. The only time this is true is when they look very similar in quality TO ME, which XIII and versus do not, TO ME.

I won't go over my reasons for knowing why versus is going to be my favorite of the two again, but just know that I know myself well enough to be able to know what kind of atmosphere, action, setting, etc that I like in my games, movies, and other media. And versus is very close to that while XIII is not.

I trust Square Enix to make good games, in my opinion MOST of the stuff they have is very high quality. So just the fact that they are both SE games, means to me they will both probably be very high quality. So the fact that versus has more action oriented gameplay (which I think is what a FF needs), and has elements based on the YAKUZA, and the awesome looking setting is all I really need to know to tell me which one will be my favorite, since I know that they will both be high quality already (faith in SE).

In essence, your argument tells me I have to wait for the new halo to come out as well as a new gears of war to know which one I will like better, when I already know I fucking hate Halo?

I mean unless they radically changed Halo to the point where it shouldn't even be called Halo anymore, I already know I would like Modern Warfare 2 better. Same applies to XIII. I have even already seen gameplay. Unless they radically altered that gameplay and story before the game came out, to match more my style of setting and gameplay in a game (gloomy and action oriented) then I already know Versus (which is striving for these things) will be more appealing to me...

Your logic is fucking stupid.

Hynad

Yeah sure, compare a third person action game to a FPS.

Versus and FF XIII are both RPG games. One of which we have info on it, the other not so much.

You base your judgment on the looks of things. Not on actual information.

Nomura himself told the press he didn't yet know how the battle system will work exactly. And the setting? Yep, vague lines that could end up not being at all like what you think. I hope you get disappointed.

But you probably won't, even if the game sucks balls like the next Transformers game.

You have the avatar of a pedo. Now that we've got the insults out of the way...

FF7 is one of the worst out of the series for me.
So any game trying to emulate it is going to get points docked.

Also, when a game goes multi-platform, in the porting sense, the superior system (graphical power wise) is going to get hit.

It happened with games that were made for the PS2 & the Xbox.
They were limited by the PS2's graphical power when compared with the superior hardware of the Xbox.

After reading 7 pages of this topic, I've come to this conclusion.

Screw XIII, they're about to release 3 flagship titles and they've announced XIV recently, it's a circus. Too many products of FF were announced in little time.

I personally don't find appealing Nomura designs and I lost my interest on the main FF since they released IX.
Square is releasing that many titles because they know it's going to sell and it will sell really good.

XIII, is a regular Nomura FF.
Versus XIII, Nomura says that it will be more darker and realistic, let's see what he gets.
Agito, I don't know what the fuck is this.
XIV, Online with designs of Yoshida and music of Uematsu. This is a more attractive offer to me.

Protagonist: I don't really care, every FF I like don't have a protagonist of my particular liking.
Story: XIII is pretty regular, Versus there's little said apart from being speculative darker and realistic, Agito...WTF?.
Gameplay: Don't care as long as they've don't come with a stupid static non-strategic slow gameplay as IX.(perhaps it's strategic but it's so SLOW)

And as I was writing this I've just saw Versus Trailer. And it's was a deja vu for me. It's the same as Advent Children, the new protagonist is just like cloud in AC with dark hair. I think it would be a better idea to release it as an anime rather than a game. But whatever it does appear more attractive than XIII. It's all just a Circus this whole XIII and beyond thing that it's doing square in my point of view.

FF XIII isn't trying to emulate FF VII, as far as the info we have about it goes. That's a baseless assumption on your part, but I'll get back on that later.

When a game goes multi-platform, in the porting sense like you say, the system it was first designed for usually gets the better version of the game. You mustn't have played many multi-platform games. You know, games like Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3, or even Bayonetta all look better on the original system it was designed for (in those cases, the 360).

Now if you're saying the PS3 version of FF XIII will take the hit because it is now going on the 360 too, then that's nothing but an assumption on your part, and there's nothing but random rumors from angry Sony-tards backing it. The game was designed for the PS3 architecture first, so if there's any down-scaling, if we apply the usual trend that comes with the porting process, it will be the 360 version that will get the hit, not the other way around.

There's nothing indicating, without any doubt possible, that Square-Enix downgraded the possible quality of the game to make the two versions as faithful to each others as possible. You can believe what you will, but no undeniable evidences point to that.

And the judge is still out to determine whether or not the PS3 is more capable than the 360.

First and second party developers have an edge on the PS3, but what tells us that they wouldn't manage to do a game like Uncharted 2 on the 360 if they were to develop for that particular architecture?

As for Lightning having been created to be a female version of Cloud, that's only the overall envelop. Her personality isn't the same as Cloud and she's not going to have the same inner struggle.

And just to let you know, since you don,t seem to be aware of it, the one who designed Cloud and created Advent Children is handling Versus from A to Z, so if there's a game that should worry you about the characters resembling Cloud, and having to go through the kind of shit they threw at us with that overly emo tard, it's Versus you should look at.

xENOgEAR666: You may anticipate the game more, but saying it will be better without actually playing, and barely having any info about its gameplay (since they didn't release anything yet) is indeed retarded. Your argument about how FF XIII is just an other typical FF when compared to Versus holds no ground since we don't yet know what kind of gameplay and story Versus will offer. Even the setting is obscure and have been barely given any details. I repeat myself here. But it's a fact, and you can't seem to get it. Some slow-pokes will only understand a statement after repetition. Hope that helps. ;)

Dude, go back, and actually read at least one of my posts..... please...

I never once said that the game will be better IN GENERAL, I ALWAYS said that the game was going to be better or more appealing to me, I said it was my style of game.

I was arguing that I have plenty of info to tell me that Versus is more my style of game than XIII, not that I can say the game is better for sure, that is an opinion.

and it HAS been stated that versus will be more action game like, and you can tell by the amazing music and the atmosphere of the trailer the game is going to be more somber in general.

Once again, you put words in my mouth to try to win the argument.

Hynad
10-30-2009, 10:10 AM

I know what I like, especially what kind of games I like, and Versus appeals to me 1000000x more than XIII.

and I am 20 years old. There is nothing pre-pubescent about my comment you fool.

That post from yours here is where you state you will, without any doubt possible, love Versus more. Despite what I pointed out about the utter lack of information.

And here is when you started your hilarity fest:

I may be a little behind when it comes down to FFXIII Versus, but the last I heard it hadn't been announced if it was going to be released outside of Japan. Any other info about this released yet?

I looked on Wikipedia and this is all that's listed there under Development:

Development

Final Fantasy Versus XIII began development as early as 2003, two or three years prior to E3 2006 in conjunction with Final Fantasy XIII, after the PlayStation 3 Final Fantasy VII Technical Demo was completed.[19] Led by Tetsuya Nomura, the game was developed by the team responsible for the Kingdom Hearts games as well as Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. As with Final Fantasy XIII, development initiated on the PlayStation 2 but was later shifted to the PlayStation 3 when the development team determined that the PlayStation 2's hardware would not suffice for the "visual expression" that the team had initially decided upon and that the single DVD format did not have the adequate storage requirements. As such, most of the development was restarted on the PlayStation 3.[19] Versus XIII was considered unsuitable as an iteration of the Final Fantasy series due to the concept and thinking behind the game's plot and structure.[20]

Along with Final Fantasy XIII, the game utilizes the Crystal Tools engine—an engine specifically designed by Square Enix for the seventh generation of video game consoles. However, in early 2007, Square Enix had announced they had licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for use in their future next generation titles, like The Last Remnant. Some speculated that Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be developed using the Unreal Engine 3, however, Square Enix has stressed the White Engine—later renamed Crystal Tools—would be used in Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII in the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation.[21][22] It was announced that the game would use the PlayStation 3's motion-sensitive SIXAXIS controller.[14]

Reports of June 2008 that Final Fantasy Versus XIII had been put on hold so that the Versus team could assist work on the main title, Final Fantasy XIII, were later debunked by Square Enix, stating that this was a mistranslation of an interview from Famitsu[23] and misinterpretation of the article, and that both games are moving along at their original schedules; occasionally, Versus developers assist with Final Fantasy XIII development.[24] Square Enix announced at its DKΣ3713 party in August 2008 that the demo of Final Fantasy XIII, as well as new trailers of Versus XIII and Agito XIII, would be released in the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete Blu-ray Disc.[25] Square Enix announced the release date of the new Advent Children Blu-ray release to be some time during March 2009 (later changed to April 16) and asked fans to disregard previous release dates.[26] Famitsu released a 50-minute DVD entitled "Re: Riplai" on December 13, 2008 including trailers from the Fabula Nova Crystallis series and other Square Enix titles.[27]

From what else I've read on Wikipedia about this title, with so little to go on it does seem rather foolhardy to make any concrete comments about which is going to be better etc. Still, if people want XIII more than Versus XIII and vice versa, who cares?

Hynad, I hate to disagree with you here, but this guy is right. He will like that versus game more. I know this because I know his type. He would think dog crap is the best thing ever if you dress it in black clothes and put it in a room with no color. It's what he thinks is cool, and for some people, "coolness" is all that matters.

Please keep in mind that I think both games look like garbage and won't be touching either of them.

Well the battle system of FF13 has got me intrigued to say the least.

It sounds more like FF4/9 with the whole 'classes' type of a deal.

Verses better pull something out of its ass because emo lawnmower sword can only go so far with me.

Thank you , "Prak". My point exactly. I know which one I will like better you just don't have to be such an asshole all the time, you know?

Its not that "coolness" is the only thing that matters, like I have said before, it is from my faith in sqenix to make them both superb games.

Since I have faith in that (both being good games), all it comes down to (if they deliver) is which one I think has the cooler gameplay, setting, and characters. So far, the little info I have had on versus makes it seem they are developing that game much more to my tastes. Ever since I saw/heard about XIII I just wished they had made it differently.

If you say these things (characters, settings, visuals etc) are not important to a video game, then I dunno what to tell you. I guess we just look for different things in a game, which is no reason to insult anyone about its an opinion. Everyone has differing tastes, no?

Most movies, video games, and music I like is often serious, dark, somber and mature. That doesn't mean I run around in black clothes depressed and cut myself, its just my taste.

I can cut loose and watch some comedy or play a lighthearted or sports game, but at the end of the day the stuff that speaks to me much more is serious or darker stuff. Gangster movies (its awesome Noctis's group is based on the Yakuza), fantasy, and really off the wall trippy stuff is pretty much what fills my media collection.

XIII looks pretty good, don't get me wrong. I will play it. It looks like it has some of what I like, a dystopian society, etc. But at the end of the day for some reason it just doesn't look as appealing as a new FF should. It might just be because I really don't like any of the characters.

The characters in XIII all look really lame and from reading about them/watching the trailer I don't really feel like I can relate to them. I can't stand the design and personality of the main bro guy with blonde hair. What kind of name is lightning? A female version of cloud are you serious? etc etc all things I think while I watch/read about XIII

I mean are you guys really THIS gung-ho about telling people what they can and cannot like? Or do you guys just like arguing and trying to look cool on ffshrine? I mean its no big deal really, everyone likes different stuff.

You fellows need to grow up, and stop labeling anyone that likes something different than you a FFVII fanboy, some other kinda fanboy, moron, etc etc.

I actually had a little respect for you before this post. I thought you posted SOME intelligent things, and alot of ignorant things.

But jesus christ almighty, imrove myself? Sorry bud, I don't consider my taste in video gaming to have anything whatsoever to do with improving myself. Im quite happy with my life at the moment :D

Hahahaha, wow. Thanks for the good laugh ;)

If you think changing someone elses video game tastes is improving them (making them a better person) then, wow, that calls for another GROW UP.

And I trust squenix to make these 2 good games because of what I have seen and read. I knew that I wouldn't like 11 and 12 before they even came out. I have faith in squenix to make these two good because I think they know they have been disappointing as of late and want to come back. Incorrect broseph, the only thing this thread has been about at least in my participation is about my preference of games and why I can or cannot choose which games I will like and not like. (LOL) Right now, you are trying to tell me that I am irrational because I believe I can choose for myself what games I will or will not enjoy? Once again you leave me speechless, all I can say is you are ridiculous.

You care way too much about winning internet arguments, to the point of making yourself look stupid. Just keep digging yourself deeper and deeper arguing a null point to death.

Hence, you are telling me I am "inferior" because I am irrational, but I am irrational because I think I can think for myself and tell what games I will like or not like. That is exactly what this thread is about, so that is exactly what you are saying. Don't try to change your argument now man stick with it ;)

That argument makes you a fool. I don't care about you forgetting about this argument and playing nice, because, once again you are a fool who means nothing at all to me. Grow up and grow some balls.

FFVII? Nope, only played it once...

XIII? definately not...

Versus?? Nope, looked at it a few times looks cool, but Ill reserve being a "fanboy" until it comes out...

Xenogears? OK I admit I might be a fanboy of xenogears... although I dont dress up, go to conventions, or pretend Im the characters or something. Just the pinnacle of gaming for me. is it a problem Xenogears is my fav game? Cuz that could be the only game I could be a fanboy of...

Only reason I would call myself a fanboy is because I play it like once a year and it will always have a spot as my fav game. But shit if that bothers you so much you can cry about it I dont care.

I actually was under the impression that you were an unreasonable fanboy for FF7, which seems to have come from some exposed wire in my brain combining elements from you and that puddles guy (no offense to him if he reads this, as I find him to be a nut job, but basically harmless). My apologies for that. You have displayed some typical fanboy traits in regard to that versus game, but since you haven't actually played it, I guess the label isn't accurate.

As for my posts, if you weren't too busy being a know-it-all noob, you might question whether I was just as abrasive when I joined, which I can assure you I was. And trust me when I say that making an average of 5.5 posts per day over a period of 5 years is not a huge feat. Lots of people around here post much more than that.

Now, it seems things are winding down, so I'll clue you into a little secret. I don't actually hate you, want you to die in a fire, or anything of the sort. I don't truly care much about your existence at all. You've been a momentary amusement for me. Just some goober who popped in with no understanding of his environment, some very questionable opinions, and a hostile attitude. I don't take you seriously, nor have I from the moment I said my first word to you, as instanced by the fact that I've never tried to talk any sort of sense into you. Hell, I've pretty much just trolled you.

But here's a little sense for you, and I really hope you accept it. People around here tend to enjoy an argument. If you dodge a question, repeat an answer that's been challenged, or hold to a view that's been proven unreasonable, we'll take it as an insult and savage you for it.

Frankly, if you had just said from the start that your excitement about versus 13 wasn't really justifiable and acknowledged the possibility that the game could wind up being something other than what you want, nobody would have thought anything of it. Instead, you took an aggressive stance to defend a view that makes no reasonable sense, and thus we attacked.

Well I suppose now we are thinking alike.

Every post in this thread has just been me wasting time at work to amuse myself.

So thanks to you guys for providing me with entertainment at work as well...

But yes you are right there is a possibility the game could be a monumental failure and I could hate it...

I just feel there is a much greater chance of XIII taking that dive (for me) :D

Lets call an end to this then, later ;)
