Quentin Tarantino is truly a soundtrack alchemist.

He blends together seemingly disparate artists and genres of music and creates pure aural gold for his films. Each one of his soundtracks not only helps bring the stories to life, but they also become classic albums in their own right. How can you forget the Pulp Fiction soundtrack's pairing of Dick Dale and Al Green? "Stuck In the Middle With You" was NEVER the same after Reservoir Dogs either.

Inglourious Basterds continues that tradition. The film stands out as Tarantino's most simultaneously epic and personal work, and the soundtrack [Available August 18] remains the perfect complement to the director's WWII masterpiece. Nick Perdito's "The Green Leaves of Summer" sets the mood with its lush accordion and slowly strummed strings in the backdrop. The track functions as this fantasy's gateway and sets the tone.

Ennio Morricone's "The Verdict" blends a classical piano line with Spanish guitar licks for pure Spaghetti Western bombast. The shock-n-awe distortion at the beginning of Billy Preston's funk-I-fied "Slaughter" feels ominous, but then the song explodes into a downright danceable hook. Morricone's "The Surrender" is equally badass, but in a completely different way. Lillian Harvey and Willy Fritsch's "Ich Wollt Ich Waer Ein Huhn" bubbles with whimsy, breaking up the tension and adding levity to this pastiche.

The centerpiece of this collection is David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out the Fire)." In the movie, it serves as sonic backdrop to a ritualistic preparation for one of the main character's most pivotal moments. During the flow of the record, the song exerts the same effect that it does in the movie—bleeding raw, unbridled emotion. Regardless of the era it was recorded in, each song feels meant for the film because Tarantino covers such a wide range of emotions in the narrative.

There's joy, pain, anger, ecstasy and fear in Basterds. Isn't that what all classic records are supposed to have too?

The only stuff from the Pertwee era that I'm aware of is the excerpts from "The Sea Devils" and "The World of Doctor Who" (which is a suite of Pertwee-era stock cues including the Master's Theme) on The Best of Doctor Who Volume 1 and The Worlds of Doctor Who; bits and pieces amid the sound effects on Doctor Who at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop Volume 2; and Devil's Planets featuring the complete score to "The Mutants". The only one of those not posted in the previous set is Devil's Planets, so here it is. Get it while it's hot:

The only other option I can think of is the DVDs. Some of them, or at least the Region 2 release versions, have isolated scores as a bonus feature. I don't believe that any of mine have them, but most of the single-episode scores listed above are from that source. I'd recommend asking Spike Revell where he got them, as I downloaded them from him. If so, then you might be able to get ahold of "Spearhead From Space," "The Silurians," "Inferno," "The Claws of Axos," "The Sea Devils," "The Three Doctors," "Carnival of Minsters," "The Green Death," and "The Time Warrior."

As far as early Dr. Who isolated score releases, I do believe I saw some of those on Demonoid (the bittorrent tracker) although I ignored them because I am not a fan and the guy seemed to do them for each and every episode. It appears as if the torrents are no longer available sadly so I can't help you there.

Here's a link to a torrent on Demonoid that has a fantastically assembled and massive collection of Who scores (pretty much anything and everything you could be looking for), including isolated score assemblies and commercial releases, etc. It's a fantastic torrent for anyone looking for Doctor Who score materials (and of course, with a torrent you can just pick and choose which files you want to actually download). Of course, Demonoid is a member-only site. They open up registrations from time to time.

Here's a link to a torrent on Demonoid that has a fantastically assembled and massive collection of Who scores (pretty much anything and everything you could be looking for), including isolated score assemblies and commercial releases, etc. It's a fantastic torrent for anyone looking for Doctor Who score materials (and of course, with a torrent you can just pick and choose which files you want to actually download). Of course, Demonoid is a member-only site. They open up registrations from time to time.

Yeah, it's quite the collection (I've been a Who fan since I was a little kid, fwiw). The poster of the torrent (Dr Matt) did the assembly of many of them himself (via isolated score tracks and other sources). He does marvelous work on them. Most of the ones he assembled himself are up on Demonoid in individual lossless FLAC rips as well. I thought I'd check Mininova to see if it showed up there as well, and it does. The tracker it shows is Demonoid's tracker, so I'm not sure if it'll work via non-member-only Mininova for those without Demonoid accounts, but it's worth a shot if they wanna try it.

Ye Have Been Warned: Doctor Who fans are near universal in their agreement that "The Silurians" and "The Sea Devils" have the worst scores in the show's history. The former is an attempt to represent the episode's prehistoric monsters with "primitive" music using a medieval reed instrument called a shawm, but it sounds like the same three note sequence played on the kazoo over and over again until you bleed from the forehead. The latter is not bad as far as early 70s proto-electronica goes, it just keeps BLEEPBLEEP going BLOODLEOODLE without TWAAAANNNGGGG regard to the BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ action on screen, almost WIBBLEWIBBLEWIBBLE at random.
Also, "The Gunfighters" is often held to be the show's worst episode ever (The British thought they could do a story set at the O.K. Corral with Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the Clanton Gang. I suppose we had it coming after all those misguided Amercian versions of King Arthur and Robin Hood), and there's an awful lot of Old West Saloon Ballad Singing commenting on the action like a Greek Chorus on Hee Haw. Download and listen at your own risk.

The related albums are indeed Doctor Who related.
The two Cybertech albums are electronic music inspired by Doctor Who, chiefly the "New Adventures" novel series from the late 1990s, and feature the odd line of dialogue recorded especially for the album by the actors from the show. (In fact, when the BBC put up one of the novels, Mark Gatiss's [I]Nightshade, on the official Doctor Who website as a free e-book, they included the tracks from Cybertech inspired by that book as bonus downloads.) Cybertech's mix of the Doctor Who theme was even featured in the 30th anniversary special episode, Dimensions in Time.
Mark Ayres was one of the show's staff composers during the 7th Doctor's run, and Myths and Other Legends is original music Mark wrote for the Myth Makers series, a VHS series of independent semi-pro interviews with the cast and crew of Doctor Who. And while I'm not familiar with the Blue Veils and Golden Sands album, I do know that Delia Derbyshire is the electronic music pioneer from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop who created the original version of the Doctor Who Theme. Sure, Ron Grainer gets the credit as composer, but in the days before synthesizers it was Delia who spliced together yards and yards of tape recordings of raw electronic tones to get the unearthly sound they were looking for. Poor woman died penniless and drunk. Shame, really. Anyway, I know that a few of her original pieces were used in the series during the late 60s and early 70s (they can be heard on Doctor Who at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop Volume 1 & 2), and they're almost proto-ambient, so I imagine that this is similar work.

After much searching I found this on a BLOG site. This was the best
version of the soundtrack that I could find. According to MediaInfo
this was encoded with LAME 3.96r using the -V0 pre-set setting. I
cleaned up the tags using MP3TAG and created a M3U playlist file.
There are two different versions of the artwork included but both
are rather small unfortunately (best I could find). Also please note
that to the best of my knowledge there was never a CD release of
this so I believe that this is an LP Rip although I couldn't find one
download of this soundtrack that made any mention of what the
source was. It sounds amazingly good for an LP Rip though!
