Apparently Richard Wells' score to Mutant Chronicles is now available at iTunes. I'm not familiar with Richard Wells, but the movie looks kinda cool. May have a good sci-fi action score to go along with it.

Hm, that's the guy who worked together with David R. Punshon on VG soundtracks like Apache, Z, 3 Skulls of the Toltecs, Gangsters 1 & 2 or Superman: Shadow of Apokilips! Another VGM composer to explore film music.

Its not true Lossless obviously, but it does convert it pretty darn high in terms of the audio quality/fidelity.

Sorry, but what is the purpose of converting an MP3 file to WAV? The quality is exactly the same afterwards.

The program does allow you to convert a file like Mp3 or other lossy format, into Lossless though (which is what I do). The quality is just not as good as if the audio source was in Lossless to begin with.

Converting a lossy file to a lossless one is frowned upon. It offers no quality gain whatsoever and is the root of fake lossless bootlegs. You can never recover the lost data from a lossy file so converting to a lossless one will offer no quality gain, no matter what you do it. After converting an mp3 to FLAC you are left with a fake lossless file which can be detected very easily. All you're left with is a very large lossy file.

Be careful, converting between lossy formats can and will degrade the audio, even if you convert a 320k mp3 to another 320k mp3.

protium is right, what is lost is lost and cannot be retained. That would be magic. Whatever you might like about it, it's certainly not a better quality.
Which lossless codec is used is not important, ape flac wv, tak, wma lossless or whatever - they all retain the quality.

If you were directing that question to me DaHaK_FoX_56, then yes it does. The program is made by Creative, unfortunatley I got in their suite of tools when I purchased one of their Mp3 Players. Although, you might be able to purchase it off their site or maybe even get a trial version off download.com.

dbpoweramp ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), Mediacoder: Audio Edition ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), foobar ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and winamp ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) will do the converting for you :)

Although dbpoweramp is the Carlsberg of audio converters ;).

But please remember transcoding a lossy file will only degrade the audio even more.

I looked up the tracklist and that's the standard CD release. Thanks for taking time through. I think I'd settle for a bootleg it looks like. I'm really surprised trhough. I know there has to be a complete score to Ghost Rider somewhere because I know some tracks are missing.

Transcoding a lossy file to a lossless one makes no difference to the audio quality. What you are left with are two identical files, one of which is 6 times the size of the original with no quality gain.

You've wasted maybe 30MB of space on a file that is only supposed to occupy maybe 3-4MB at most.

Hearing a difference in the quality of the two is what we scientists call the Placebo Effect. Give a patient IV Morphine without their knowledge and it's efficacy is lowered dramatically. Inform them of the pain relief they're recieving and it works. It is the same with your situation - you see a lossless file and you percieve it as sounding better ;)

All I'm saying is that you are wasting time and HDD space on these files. ;)

I e-mailed him on Tuesday asking him if he could send me a copy of his "Millions" score, and I just received it today, along with a signed copy of "Last House on the Left" - FOR FREE!

I don't know how many composers would take the time to address a fan's request, let alone fill it, so he has immediately jumped to one of my favorite composers simply by virtue of his generosity and kindness.

This is one of those things that puts you in a good mood on an otherwise grumpy day. :)

Are you by any chance using WMP to rip your CDs? If so, you can easily change it to rip in 320 MP3 quality by going to Tools --> Options --> hit the Rip Music tab --> then change Rip Format to MP3 and move the bar all the way to the right for Best Quality.

This is a wonderful score (for an excellent movie). It looks like Vivaldi wrote a score. It's beautiful, fresh, sometimes dark. A must-hear !

I had a quick view on the isolated score of THE X FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. It's an isolated score, where the gaps are filled up with the foley layer. So it's not possible to make an fx-free clean rip. There will be a lot of work involved to do a proper version of Mark Snow's score.

I decided to go in a completely different direction with this one, because I wasn't happy with the results I was coming up with. The first three adventure compilations draw upon some of the best-known titles in adventure, but for this one I took a slightly broader approach and included some other fun assorted genres, too. Thus the title changed to "Beyond Adventure" (while still encompassing the wide spectrum of adventure, I feel). I guarantee that if you liked either of the first three "Ultimate Adventure" albums, you will find something to enjoy this one. Have fun! :)

Zack, I doubt very much "The Man" will ever come out on a soundtrack CD. The film bombed and New Line have been eaten by Warners anyway. I'll see Chris Young tomorrow at the signing and I'll ask him about Spiderman 3. Chris is actually the nicest composer I ever met. A real gentleman. Unlike some of our lot unfortunately.
