View Full Version : FFXIII? =[

I don't know about this one.
To me, this game doesn't look that great. I couldn't help but frown when watching the trailer. I hate these "futuristic" looks that RPGs are going through nowadays.

I mean I will still buy it because, it's still FF, and it's on PS3.
So graphics wise, this game looks excellent.

I guess I'm just going to flat out say it.

The main character should NEVER be a chick.
Unless you are playing Silent Hill or something.

This game just doesn't look promising.

Joey

Damn you guys suck.

I just wanted to say "TO ME" this game does not look appealing.
I just wanted other people's opinions about FFXIII, not other people's opinions about Joey[WARRANTY].

Prak, I played through X-2, I got 100% completion.
And to me, that game still sucked.
So in my mind, I didn't miss anything.

yeah, why? in fact, i think females are better leads then men are. i think women are stronger (not physically, although that's sometimes the case) and could do more things. i also think women make better villains as well. they just seem more vicious and evil and just better.

Joey
06-29-2006, 07:51 PM
Haha Zell for catching the MGS.

Well all I am going to say is that according to the trailer I've seen the only thing that looked appealing were the graphics and music.

I'm not too excited about the female character (not sexist/gay) but I guess I will have to get over it.

I do agree i was shocked at the E3 trailer showing the scenes to be so futuristic (like moreso than the Spirits Within movie). but then i saw the sword, that turned into a gun. and i was like: 'kick.. ASS!'. maybe they're getting better at this futuristic stuff eh? i mean, there wasn't anything saying they had to stick to medievil castles or anything like that. it's WAY too soon to judge anything as 'not promising'

as for the female main character thing, i don't agree with your, *buzz* vague use of language, announcing females make a bad leading role. i mean, who do you think you are? and as you have so expertly manouvered into a wall; you've found out that people can be scary.

Dark Mage626
06-29-2006, 11:53 PM
Joey I think you are judging the game to early. There's nothing wrong with a female lead. And It's not all futuristic, there's a scene where's she's walking through a forest, a forest with mystical trees, birds and bees.

Joey
06-29-2006, 11:55 PM
Hahaha ok.

Before anyone says anything else, I have already said,"I may be saying this to early to know but..."

Basiclly the main idea I wanted to state was that the music and the graphics look/sound good.

Other than that the game doesn't appeal to me.

Yet, future trailers or whatever may change my mind. I wanted this to be an open discussion about YOUR THOUGHTS ON FFXIII.

What do you like/dislike?

Dark Mage626
06-30-2006, 12:07 AM
Oh I see.
I like the graphics, music, main character, weapon, clothing, train thingy, the look of battle system and also that robot thing with the tail looks cool looks cool. :)
Not much information has been released about FFVXIII yet, though I am interested in seeing that trailer when it's finally released. The main character design for this is also good. I would really like to see alot more of this game.
I don't have much to say about Agito, although I think square are having trouble coming up with designs for characters for this one as some of them look similar to other characters from different FF's. A trailer for this would be good too.
I want to hear more on the story of all of these games and how the crystal is related to each game. If the games turn out to be good I wouldn't mind another movie.
EDIT: I like the idea of a female character.

hb smokey

Don't forget that every Metroid game, and Perfect Dark/Zero have female lead characters, and those games all did very very well.

I don't make judgments about a game from a simple trailer that does nothing but try to impress us with graphics.

out of FF6-10 (havent played XII) they haven't made a bad one yet so i have hopes for XIII

The reason im against a girl being the protagonist is that i think Enix's girl's are so damn annoying. Minus girls like Riona, aeris and them. Judging from the shit they made in x-2 i don't want more girl protagonist. They should put samys in FF XIII since she kicks mucho ass.

Nah, FFX-2 was not a good game imho, too different from what i was used to. Had nothing to do with the fact that there was a female lead, it was just too happy and the battle system was all over the place.

FFXIII looks great though. I don't think you can get too futuristic, i mean it is a fantasy game after all...it doesn't need to stick to old fashioned medieval times to be good.

Aeris was the most annoying part of FFVII.
Selphie was annoying in FFVIII.
Eiko just pissed me off in FFIX.
You already mentioned Riku in X.

Basiclly I like the style of the classic ones better.
So the setting in the newer FF's don't appeal THAT much.

I shouldn't have to explain to you.
That's retarded. It is my opinion.

Mainly all of these characters had the same thing in common.
When it was a time to be sad or feel despair, they always had to be the whole party's fly buzzing in the ear.

Always trying to do some annoying bullshit. It's nothing that can really be explained.

It's just something that always bothered me.

Who's to say the female character won't be any good at this stage? Ok so you get some crappy female characters in games but that goes for male characters as well.

Besides even if people choose not to like FF X-2 there was nothing about Yuna that particularly marked her as a bad character, and what about other female characters in the series such as Dagger in FF9 and the female characters in FF6? There was nothing bad about those characters either. You can't judge a game as likely being rubbish just because a female has been picked for the main character as it's just as likely SE wil have got it right this time round as they have done before.

If you still aren't convinced after looking into those characters, then fuck you...fuck you and the horse you rode on because this is just your way of saying that females don't deserve to have lead roles. I think it's all because that guy is male, and he wants to be associated with someone who has similar traits to him. Now while I'm sure he isn't full of pixels, he would feel a lot more comfortable playing the game if it was a male lead character than female. I like both male and female as the lead, but I prefer male since there has been a lot more occurences of it. I would like to see more games with female characters however.

There are both strong female characters and strong male characters. Personally, I couldn't care less on the gender of the main character, as long as he/she is down-to-earth, realistic, (like Paine) and not stuck in some unachievable fantasy (as was Yuna in FFX-2). There are some male main characters that I didn't like, as well as female main characters that I didn't like. I would be fine with a female taking the lead role, especially in a final fantasy game.

BTW, Raiden was less intelligent than a grain of sand. enough said.

The two examples we have, 6 and X-2 have a main different.

In 6 you have a team of 11 playable characters which are all well developed (except the secret ones), which doesnt make the game to focus only on Terra. You can even finish the game without need to get Terra.

On the other hand, FF X-2 has only 3 playable characters which are all female and they are introduced from the start of the game. So the story focus more on Yuna.

I dont see why there would not be a female character as the main character.
And if u think the came is bad because of it, then you will not enjoy the game and come back saying it sucks.

A female lead can be done very well actually -- but she has to be badass -- not some a-typical whiny heroine girl who doesn't want to be where she is -- think a female cloud -- that could be very cool, Id say.

And throw in a wimpy whiny male lead character -- you got some role reversal for great justice lol

BloodXRivers
08-06-2006, 09:56 AM
I'm so glad you feel that way -- the feelings mutual. I'm just sick and tired of all these male lead characters in RPGS -- I want an epic RPG with a female lead -- to see it from her perspective -- It's possible to create a really good story based around a female lead character -- sex shouldn't be an issue for great characters even main lead.

And come on, I can't believe there are sexists in this day and age... Women and Men, at least in most parts of the world have the same independance, same rights and priveledges -- so I don't see why there's a problem with a game having a female lead lol.

I'm a man and I love women, in all facets. I wouldn't mind seeing more female lead characters in games, even games with a majority female cast of characters -- Women rule!

But back to the topic, from the trailer I've seen of Final Fantasy XIII - I can't but say I'm impressed -- the character shown, she looks intense, sexy, and skilled. I'm curious as to how her personality would be -- combined with those skills. Final Fantasy XIII looks damn impressive and I'm looking forward to it, much more so than I am to Final Fantasy XII to be honest.

What? so the way cloud started off in FFVII was bad? Sorry, but the character who begins a story not giving two sh*ts about the planet and what goes out with the people therein, is an interesting character -- giving all the problems that Cloud's character went through, his past etc -- his personality, to one like me who likes complex characters -- is quite appealing.

A female who gives off that same aura of not giving two sh*ts about the people around her, and only caring about the mission -- is one helluva a character in my view -- then through the interatactions of the other characters, and possibly one male character in particular -- gives her incentive to see things from a different perspective... see now don't you see why a character with some of cloud's mannerisms could make for an interesting one? For once try to think the meaning behind someone's words before posting blindly your own thoughts without thinking... as the old saying goes. READ. THINK. POST. -- in that order...

But let's talk about the topic at hand FFXIII I personally don't mind a female lead but I would prefer a male Let's fac it the reason that the leads are male are because majority of FF gamers are 13- to like 30 and these are mostly males. Now I don't want to get a big arguement how women play games but I said majority. And the reason that they are male is to attract the main audience. Not that any males would have a problem playing a women but playing as a male is more relatable.

What? so the way cloud started off in FFVII was bad?

Not only the way he started off; the way he progressed, grew, and ended up.

Sorry, but the character who begins a story not giving two sh*ts about the planet and what goes out with the people therein, is an interesting character -- giving all the problems that Cloud's character went through, his past etc -- his personality, to one like me who likes complex characters -- is quite appealing.

Could you please try using some sort of punctuation; so it would be easier for me to break apart sections of your post to laugh at?

Based off of what you are saying, an ignorant, narrow-minded, arrogant character is appealing to follow.
There is nothing complex about FFVII, Cloud, Sephiroth, Jenova, Vincent, etc.

RUN ON SENTENCE TIME.
For it is just your small mind trying to explore impossible ideas to make a simple game so complex, that it makes you feel superior and less likely to get attacked by presenting random, unsupported opinions about a character's personality and importance.

Maybe you should represent yourself with more logical reasons other than, "Cloud doesn't care but in Disk 3 he does!!!"
What is so complex about Cloud that makes him a romodel for future Final Fantasy leads?

Please tell me, because I cannot find a single example.

For once try to think the meaning behind someone's words before posting blindly your own thoughts without thinking... as the old saying goes. READ. THINK. POST. -- in that order...

Please, take your own advice.

Well I was just stating my opinions, and you sir, have made it personal by attacking my intelligence.

First off, only a whiny little teenager (or an ignorant idiot) would spout off about anothers intelligence or opinions because they are too overrun by their own insecurites. I made a point that Cloud was one of the more complex characters personality wise that final fantasy had to offer... and that it was my opinion << Key word >> Opinion that a female variant would be interesting. You seem to think otherwise -- that's fine, that's cool -- you think your way, I'll think mine. I'm just stating my opinions - and opinions are like assholes, everybody has 'em -- but that doesn't give ya the right to personally attack me or my intellect.

Secondly, you want me to get into it - I will, I'll be complex. Final Fantasy VII starts off in Midgar, a city run by Mako energy and run by the powerful Shinra Inc. Now when it kicks off the player is introduced to Cloud as "Ex-Soldier" and you get to understand really quick that he doesn't care about the planet, Shinra, Avalanche -- just about his job and the money he's gonna get. He's arrogant - yes, but arragance is attractive, at least I think so.
Once Cloud learns the truth to his past, that he never was a Soldier 1st class, and all that really happened that fateful night in Nibelheim -- is when he makes the full transition in his character's personality. It was a great, yet obscure way to develop a character -- and for me, it worked greatly. For some, that might not have worked -- and they're entitled to their own opinion, which is great too.

A female Cloud - is NOT a complete replica of Cloud with parts switched around.. what I simply meant was the badass image he portrayed in the beginning - the arrogance he had -- and trust me, when you get older you can see that women can be just as, if not more arrogant than some guys.

Unless you have something meaningful to say, instead of getting all confrontational like a whiny little 15 year old who's not even hit full puberty yet... then you just let me know... but until then I have much more important things to do, like some work on a large project for my final term in college, or maybe do my girlfriend, and live life as I only I can - openly and freely -- the only way to live.

A retarded opinion may just be your own opinion, but others can still see that it's retarded. Do you think I would be regarded with any credibility if I said that I was of the opinion that the moon is made of red velvet cake? Of course not.

Haha. Had to use it.

Yes, I have played the game, I know the story well. No need for a half-assed synopsis.

It was a great, yet obscure way to develop a character

What exactly is it? I am still not seeing a genuine example has to how Cloud is a romodel to future Final Fantasy leads.
Plus, you cannot even give any reason behind your "opinions". All you can say is,"It was great."

Ok? How was it great?

when you get older you can see that women can be just as, if not more arrogant than some guys.

And maybe when you tone down your own personal arrogance, you might be able to see a 15 year old kid can easily be more intellectually advanced than a college brat.

Also, this is going way off topic of FFXIII, yet I don't give a shit.

K, just so you know Joey. First of all, trailers hardly do any justice. So you really can't say nothing bad about FFXIII yet. It's only when you've seen more updates of FFXIII that you could say something about it. Dispite it being your "opinions".

Prak

By that same token, you can't say anything good about it. Do you really want all discussion on the matter to end? That was a rhetorical question and I do not expect an answer, but please use some sense before posting in the future.

I like the new battle system. The way that you can link moves and you have to kill the enimies before they come close to you to prevent damage. I don't mind there being a girl as the main character.

whats wrong with futuristic settings? I like medieval and futuristic settings they both rock in final fantastic games. I always choose the woman if i can i like playing as a girl better that as a man i think they are stronger and just overall better! And they make better magicians =)

FF13 looks like FF is heading back into the right direction of traditional FF Gameplay. Im getting tired of crappy spinoffs and FFXI should not be in the main series. =P

Plus Enix have already said that they may be making the main character a man instead. FEWL!

yeah im with Joey on this one

even if it does look like trash (i havent looked at the trailers or anything yet so dont get mad at me =P) ill still probably get it...just cuz its FF =)

and having a girl as the main character (im not being sexist or anything, im just saying) would take me some gettin used to since the majority of the other ones are lead by guys. like i said, im not one to judge the game yet but i just thought id get my opinion/what i think so far out there =)

personally, i enjoyed FFX a lot better. i tried X-2 and i just didnt like it as much. the plot confused the hell out of me and i didnt like how they had dress spheres. i liked the other versions of how to build up your characters and stats and stuff (sphere grid, materia, etc.) it was just really different from the other games and its one of those games where you either like it or you dont.

if you guys like it, thats fine with me, this is just my opinion. i would've played more of it to see if it got me more interested but i kept dieing on this one boss in the thunder plains. actually i havent played it in a while so i might go play it again just to see if ill like it any better this time around :-P

I Know This Is Possibly The Worst Place To Discuss The Fact i Saw The Trailer Being As how The Thread Has Turned Into Shit Slinging Ill Try To Address Both...

1: The Trailer

Ok Im Wholly Impressed On A Visual Basis But Its On PS3 And Its next Gen Stuff So Its To Be Expected Right? I Like The Looks Of The Battle System As It reminds Me Slighty Of What Would happen If Star Ocean And The Matrix Had Sex... However... The Beautiful Flowing Moves Of In Battle Are They Controlled By the Player Or Is This Akin To Renzokuken? Say... Pushing The Fight Button Targeting The Enemies And Beautiful Moves Follow Via Almost Cut Scene Esque Battle Animations? Id Like To See The Battle System In Freeform Because Pressing The X Button On Fight Is getting Kinda Old... But Then The Stuff Happening In The Trailer Seemed Incredibly Complicated... Hopefully It Will Be Reasonbly Pick Up And Play Without Giving Me RSI...

2: The Character Herself

Ok She Appears To Be The Lovechild Of Yuna (X-2) And Paine Which I Personally Would Have No Problem With... As Little As I know However She Appears To Be A Bit More Mature Than Certain 'Y-R-P' Elements Of X-2 But I Cant Tell As I Havent Seen Much About The Story. The Game Is Possibly In Early Development Stages So Im Expecting Extra Party Members (Hopefully) With Different Styles Of Combat. As Far As Female Leads Go I Think That Its Great That Theres A Female Protagonist As Most Male Characters In Final Fantasy Games tend To Be Moody Emos That Just Annoy Me Which Is Why I Appreciated Tidus And Zidane On A Certain Level Because They Had A Brighter Happy Go Lucky Outlook Than Say Squall Or Cloud But As the game Progressed The Inner Depth Showed They Were Serious Characters.

3: Joey [Warranty]

You Are A Fucking Moron... When You Grow Up And Realise Youre A Miserable Burden To This Planet Maybe Just Maybe you Will Wise Up And Make Your Existence More Useful Or Maybe You'll Just Drink A Cocktail Of Draino And Sump Oil And Solve the Problem Anyway.

Apologies For The Size Of The Post But Im Rather Excited For The Possible New Breath Of Fresh Air In A Final Fantasy...

However I Wont Keep My Hopes Up

OK PRAK YOUR ON CHECK THIS OUT FOOL FIRST 3 PARAGRAPHS OH AND AN FYI I AM NOW OFFICIALY A PUBLISHED POET FOOL Long ago when our world, Kronus, was still young, the four gods and the one goddess dispensed themselves to the use of the races of Kronus. Each one creating a bond with themselves, their elements, and the race they decided to tie themselves too. This bond was known as Magic.

The peaceful forest-bound elves were amongst the most advanced and arrogant race. They pretty much acted like they owned everything; in all honesty I don’t think anybody really cared for them. The Elves were outstanding archers and expert swordsmen, or at least some of them were. Above all they were very head strong and gifted. This golden haired race worshipped Ai, god of charity and rebirth. He gave them the healing element, which was known as the “Green Element”.

The be-luring merwoman, also known as Sirens, who sent many people to their doom simply by singing, with held the water or “Blue Element”. This element gave the Sirens complete control of everything involved with water, which includes the oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, and so on and so forth. The Sirens worshipped the god of skill, Levos.

The “Brown Element” or the earth element belonged to the bearded, hard working, and very short tempered Dwarves. With their superior life span, they could live to be three hundred years old or more, they knew much about history then many of the other races. The Dwarves made great historians, warriors, architects, and in the future, weapon smiths. However, never make fun of a Dwarf’s size, they find it real offensive and may lash out in violent anger. When it comes to size they may not be very tall (the tallest standing at around four feet), but compared to everyone else they are the more formidable opponent then many of the other races, because they have the most spirit and strength. The Dwarves worship Walt god of might.

Your punctuation is lacking, your grammar is unsound, your choice of words tends to be fairly dubious, and the entire thing seems like it was written for a grade school audience. No amount of editing could turn it into something an adult could respect.

Still, it did manage to exceed my expectations. Congratulations on that accomplishment, such as it is.

You should try typing more like that. Maybe people would take you a bit more seriously.

I once made up a story I believe it was about this kid named Bob Dole it was really good I think in the end he became president after winning the election over Shawn Merryman not the guy who plays for the Charges btw

Bob Dole was of the Super Party
Shawn Merryman was of the Loser Party

It was a rea close election

Something like 90% to 1% to 9% where Bob Dole got 1% but won because all he needed was the vote from Super Election Decider. Super Election Decider got 90% of the votes but didn't vote for himself because he was drunk.

Ok, I'm new here, but I'm really excited about this game so I'll post, even at the risk of having my head bitten off by the ever-so charming hound dogs of this board. ;D

I might restate things previously said, I understand that, so don't go insane.
Ok, well, from what I saw in the trailers, this appears to be a fantasy/future/sci-fi mix similar the one present in FF8. Also, during the fight on the train, there's a group of men in white robes, who have been stated as being prisoners. Also, during an interview I read, the developers, (Masahi Hasimoto, Tetsuya Nomura, Motomu Toriyama, Yoshinori Kitase and Hajime Tabata) have stated that this game is going to be centralized around the idea of "rebellion". Also, there's a chance that the girl is not the main character, so I'm thinking that if she's not the main, then one of the prisoners will be, which would be a shame, 'cause shes a cool chica.
Also, as I'm sure you who've watched the trailers can recognize the fact that the in-game scene to fmv transition will be much smoother will less of a difference.

As for Versus, the main character is a male (yay, no complaining) who wields multiple weapons in a similar manner as Cloud from FF7: AC. Also, the graphics are just as sexy as the main game. Not as much info has been released on versus, but the main is the prince/king of the last remaining kingdom, and in the trailer for Versus, he is shown outside a modernized castle/palace-type building, with his multiple weapons floating about him as he is attacked by knight-like soldiers who wield guns. (Note the opposites, man has modern clothes [similar to clouds outfit] but uses swords, soldiers wear plate-like armor and use guns.) This game will also be released on the ps3 and is being developed by the team from Kingdom Hearts, therefore we can expect a hack and slash battle system.

Agito will be released for the cellphone and the psp, and it centered around a magical academy called "Akademia" (Haw haw). There will be multiple characters, with their own respective weapons. The main character appears to be a blonde youth who wields cards as his weapon, though nothing positive can be ascertained at this moment. There have been pictures of the students and the school released to the public.

These games will be released seperately, but all three are intertwined in such a way centering around a "crystal mythology", but not in such a way you'd expect. The crystal-based mythology is something that will be present in some form or another throughout the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. Although, this mythology wonít necessarily be part of the main storylines. The Final Fantasy 13 series producer, Yoshinori Kitase, gave the example - it is similar to how we, well, most of us at least, donít go through our daily lives concerning ourselves with ancient legends. Instead, the crystal-based mythology will be shown in designs that are used, with each of the titles in the series focusing on and showing different aspects. Crystals will take the form of every day objects, such as individual pillars and signboards. All of these objects will have some kind of meaning behind them.

It may not be possible to fully comprehend the game and it's world and mythology without completing all three games. However, at this moment, it's just speculation.

On a side note, I initially noticed the great similarities between the female heroine of the main FF13 game, and the lead character, Layla Ashley, from the anime Avenger.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I also thought the FF13 girl had a pony-tail, but I guess she just brushes it to the side. Still, it was something I couldn't help notice.

Also, pictures from Agito and Versus. :D

I'm gonna say that I'm looking forward to a female lead. Tifa was not all that of a "Girly-girl" and you guys are forgetting, out of FF 7, 8, 9, 10 and 10-2, There was also Pain who was truly not a "girly-girl". And in 11, you can make anybody a main character - guy or girl. And the girl can be however you want her to be. So whoever this chick is in XIII, I'm sure she's not going to be another Selphie. Just remember that she's going to kick ass.

Gilthanos
10-29-2006, 01:38 PM
well.. it's also been said that the chick in the preview is not the actual lead character.

I doubt she will be. Although I also find it strange that they would introduce the game and not have the main character as the spokesperson. Seems a bit strange. However.. Most of the reviews that I've red in mags regarding this game says that they don't know what her role will be in the game at all.

Naiilo
10-29-2006, 05:31 PM
The opening movie for FFVII was just Aerith (so weird not to call her Aeris) walking around. It's possible she may not be the main character. It would be awsome if she was, though.

Gilthanos
10-29-2006, 05:34 PM
opening movie is one thing. But.. to showcase a game with a character, it is generally traditional to include the main character and not a support one.

Naiilo
