Well, I loved the soundtrack and the movie too. I was even more than thrilled!
But it's just a matter of taste...

Anyway, thank you so much for the Cast Recording!!
I've always loved Michael Crawford! I'm looking forward to it! :D

Well, I loved the soundtrack and the movie too. I was even more than thrilled!
But it's just a matter of taste...The Phantom of the Opera movie soundtrack should be permanently banned as a threat to the cultural identity of western civilization, and Gerald Butler should be banned from any future role that involves even so much as humming. Whoever made the decision to cast him as The Phantom should be blacklisted from all future movie and/or stage productions as anything more than the janitor, the gaffer, or the "Best Boy" (whatever that means). Or better yet, maybe they should be banished and exiled to a desert island with a pistol that has one bullet in it. (And no nearby sea turtles!)

Any of you who have the movie soundtrack, do yourself a favor and burn every copy you have of it (with flames, not to a CD!), then download this one and then congratulate yourself & consider yourself done collecting Phantom of the Opera recordings.

(My ex told me I have a problem with openly expressing myself, so I'm trying to bring my feelings more out in the open. [Only registered and activated users can see links] )
Anyway, thank you so much for the Cast Recording!! I've always loved Michael Crawford! I'm looking forward to it! :DHappy listening. [Only registered and activated users can see links]

I couldn't stand the movie save for the new song they had in the end credits, and some of the instrumentals were nice with the full orchestra. Anyway, thanks for sharing the definitive POTO recording with us! I always manage to lose the CDs or folders of this, so time for another helping. :)

You're kidding! Emmy Rossum was a bloody awful Christine who had her voice soaked in reverb to try and hide the fact! Sarah Brightman was excellent, plus, the show was originally written for her anyway.

You're kidding! No, I'm not kidding, I simply have a different preference than you. (One way to tell an inexperienced listener, albeit a talented one, is when they mistake different preferences for inferior viewpoints. It's far wiser to label a recording as one's "favorite" rather than try to pass it off as "the best", which only reveals a short-sighted mindset on the part of the speaker.)
Emmy Rossum was a bloody awful Christine who had her voice soaked in reverb to try and hide the fact!Sorry, but even if it was true that they got carried away with reverb, that would still ultimately not hide the quality (good or bad) of her voice. Valery Gergiev's recordings of Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Mahler's 8th Symphony are both completely awash with ridiculous reverb, but it doesn't hide the fact that both performances had issues with the musicians. It's quite easy to hear, just as it would be with Emmy Rossum. Since Emmy Rossum sounded like a reasonably normal soprano voice to me (decent, if not Barbra-Streisand quality), you're going to have to explain in more detail why she is (ahem) "bloody awful".
Sarah Brightman was excellent, plus, the show was originally written for her anyway.Irrelevant. If this was a factor, then half the concerti in the orchestral repertoire would have to be shelved as the soloist they were originally written for is no longer with us. (The violinist that Tchaikovsky wrote his Violin Concerto for refused to perform it because he wasn't up to it. Using your logic, if he had tried to perform the Violin Concerto and botched it, then that would still have been the definitive performance.) Try another tactic.
