Daredevil is Netflix-exclusive, right? Did you capture the streaming surround audio yourself, and if so could you do it for another TV show?

Yep, that's right.
Nope, got them from the Usenet

Any chance you can rip the score from the end of episode 1, where he's boxing? It's a montage, with awesome drums.

Will take a look at it. Don't know if theres SFX. If we're lucky the SFX is on an extra channel...

Just checked the montage...There is SFX on the front channels and it doesn't sound good with SFX...
Sorry only converted them to FLAC to keep them as original as the source.

Hi everyone,

extracted the Title Theme & End Credits from episode 1-6.
I will add the rest after I watched the remaining episodes. I wanted to avoid spoilers :D

Extracted the AC3 5.1 stream and exported it to WAV in 5.1.
So it's better to play it a surround setup although someone can convert them to stereo

Right now I'm working on getting most of the music from episode 1 (thanks for the file shaqfu36!). If I get good results I'll start a new thread, and will update it regularly with more episodes should he be kind enough to further provide me with the AC3 files. :)

if possible, keep the 24bit quality!

You know, this isn't a 24-bit source. It's from a 640kbps AC3 file.

There's no point in having the files be 24-bit since it adds nothing but bloated filesize.

When the Blu-ray for this comes out, then there'll be a reason for it to be 24-bit.

Thanks for sharing. I actually just got done cutting the end credits for the opening and titles and episodes 1-5, but in mp3. Some of the transitions were a little tricky. We'll probably be waiting 4 months or so for a soundtrack, so I guess the credits will have to do for now to tide us over.

Here are some covers I put together quickly:

Hmm...

At first I was overjoyed to hear that for the most part the dialogue was isolated in the center channel.

But then I took a closer look and saw that every time someone speaks, there's some subtle distortion/humming of some sort in the surrounding channels. So subtle that I didn't even notice it while editing the first track... but especially noticeable during quieter moments in the score.

Here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]!GZ820ByI!81kxEu8Myw2sBwJ73MuF-85yfCo83lB5vO2yKFMGc38) is a one-minute sample from episode one's audio. Mute/cut out the center channel and listen for yourself. Am I crazy or is there really some sort of glitchy-sounding mess in the front and rear channels when someone speaks?

I hope it's just some sort of bizarre error and not the way the show is actually mixed... 'cuz that'd be really stupid. Downright poor work, even. When (I assume there'll be one) the Blu-ray comes out, I'll check that too.

To the music editors of FFShrine: is there some sort of filter or something I can use to suppress it without damaging the music more than a little, if at all? Like I said, it's really subtle, but really annoying when you realize it's there.

I think instead of doing it by episode, I'll just compile all the good tracks into one soundtrack... especially if this damned distortion is in each episodes' sound mix.

Well Brother whatever you can compile is well appreciated by me, the tracks that I enjoyed i particular was the end credits for episode 7 as well as the fight with stick when he tells (young)matt to show him he isn't wasting his time. I would love even an hour's worth of compilations for this until the official release. :) I really appreciate your efforts and contribution. :)

sort of glitchy-sounding mess...

Probably the ripping process.
There are lot of different verions out there. Which one is closest to original rip is hard to say.
You would need deeper access than usenet.

Wait for the bluray.

To the music editors of FFShrine:[B] is there some sort of filter or something

No.

It's better to wait for the bluray with actual audio.

Any webrip or HDTV capture will always have issues of some sort.

Yeah, I figured... but I really hope it's just some sort of glitch and not representative of the actual mixing job.

Based on Netflix's previous original shows... does anyone know how long generally does it take for seasons to hit home video? Four months? Five?

Anyway, here's the one track I did ([Only registered and activated users can see links]!eF92nDIQ!-uELihcgJD_J74GyefpfhEbEbWEaK82WIWaoWh-tXAE) before I realized the sound errors in the original AC3 file.

Thanks, just finished to watch the season. I don't see the point about 24 bits btw, 16b was completely fine for this.

TheSkeletonMan939
04-23-2015, 08:39 AM
Yeah, the source AC3 files were 16-bit to begin with. Don't know why the OP upconverted to 24-bit.

Converting 16 bits to 24 doesn't make it sound better!

If you're interested in this kind of stuff, here's an interview ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) with Paesano about Daredevil.

What stuck out to me:

I think with the modern technology and the way composers write these days it’s really easy to get something and chop it up in to a bunch of little segments. It’s just kind of the nature of the way we write. When you write in the computer like a lot of people do these days. It forces you to break the show up in to a bunch of little segments, but by the time you’re done with a movie you might have 40 different sessions. That’s the score, and it’s broken up.

Back in the day a guy like John Williams would get the movie and he wouldn’t write like that because he wasn’t using a computer. It would force him to look at the whole entire breadth of the movie as one giant living organism… and you would get this kind of flow with the score where it was much more cohesive and much more thought out. He would write for the movie versus writing for scenes. When you have a show like Daredevil, that kind of allowed me to do the same thing – it allowed me to view the story as a full arc versus just trying to compartmentalise and just write for scenes.

According to him there's roughly 30 minutes of music per episode.

And DAK might be interested in this tidbit:

PW: Is there any chance we might see a vinyl release at all?

JP: We’ll see. Yeah, I’m hoping so. I always push for it. I know on The Maze Runner I pushed for a vinyl and they did it and I thought that was really, really cool to get that. I’m always going to push for that on soundtracks.

Judging by the name it seems to be the soundtrack of the 2003 movie, unfortunately.

If the score of the series wasn't geoblocked I'd buy it in a heartbeat. :\

GrayEdwards
05-01-2015, 02:46 AM
Shit, I must've skipped right over that. All I saw was "Daredevil" & "AAC 256 kbps" so I just assumed it was for the show. My bad.

And I would purchase it myself but I'm tapped out at the moment. I just got a new pair of shoes (when did shoes become $160 a pair?!) and saw Age of Ultron in IMAX with my family, so I'm at least two weeks away from being able to buy it.
